Wingman Metrics
The name says 'dive' but the list says something more ambitious. At 20 labels, it's not going to overwhelm you, but there's a clear point of view here — California-forward with a handful of solid European picks thrown in to keep things honest. The daily happy hour discount signals a place that wants you to drink wine, not just sell it.
VinZant Wines out of Sonoma Valley anchors a big chunk of the list, covering rosé, Riesling, a red blend, and Cab — which is either a smart partnership or a shortcut depending on how charitable you're feeling. Beyond VinZant, there are some genuinely interesting bottles: a Tenuta Regaleali Lamuri Nero d'Avola from Sicily, Finca Nueva Tempranillo Crianza from Rioja, and Domaine de la Solitude Côtes du Rhône round out a modest but functional European wing. The high end goes full Napa with Jayson by Pahlmeyer, Frog's Leap Merlot, Stonestreet Cab, and Freemark Abbey — respectable names, though the $185 ask on the Freemark Abbey will sting. Gaps exist: no Burgundy, no German, no skin-contact anything, and the Southern Hemisphere is completely absent.
Five pours by the glass isn't a program, it's a starting point — but the $9–$11 price point keeps it accessible for a Wednesday night out. The VinZant lineup handles most of the BTG rotation, which means variety isn't the strong suit here. If you want to explore beyond the house pours, the 3–6pm happy hour makes the bottle list a much better proposition at 25% off.
VinZant Wines 'Evie En Rosé' Rosé of Syrah — $9/glass
A Sonoma Valley Rosé of Syrah at $9 a glass is a fair deal in any market, let alone Overland Park. It's the move if you're sticking to glass pours and want something with a bit more backbone than a typical blush.
Tenuta Regaleali 'Lamuri' Nero d'Avola
Sicilian Nero d'Avola from one of the island's most respected estates — most tables at a Kansas wine bar are going straight for the Napa Cab and walking right past this. It's earthier, more interesting, and almost certainly priced more fairly than the heavy hitters at the top of the list.
Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
At $185 a bottle, you're paying a steep premium for a recognizable Napa name. Freemark Abbey is solid but not a bottle that justifies that number at a casual bistro — you can find it at retail for considerably less, and you'd be better off spending that money on two or three more interesting bottles elsewhere on the list.
Finca Nueva Tempranillo Crianza, Rioja + Burger or grilled red meat entrée
A Rioja Crianza has the acidity and earthy red fruit to cut through fat and char without bulldozing the plate. It's a natural fit for anything coming off the grill, and at a wine-focused American bistro, that's exactly the kind of workhorse pairing that makes dinner feel effortless.
Daily — All bottles are 25% off the wine list every day from 3pm–6pm during happy hour.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Louie's Wine Dive punches a little above its name — the list is approachable without being lazy, the happy hour discount is genuinely useful, and the European picks add just enough texture to keep things interesting. It won't replace a serious wine bar, but it's a solid neighborhood spot worth returning to.
I-435 & Metcalf / South Overland Park · Overland Park · Upscale Steakhouse
Ruth's Chris Overland Park delivers exactly what it promises: a big, well-managed wine list staffed by people who know it, served in proper glassware at prices that will make you wince. Send a friend here for a business dinner or a celebration, but tell them to stick to the mid-tier California reds and leave the prestige bottles for someone else's tab.

Central Overland Park · Overland Park · Italian
Garozzo's isn't a wine destination, but it's a reliable Italian dinner with a list that won't embarrass you — especially if you show up on a Sunday. Half-price bottles up to $100 is a legitimate deal, and for a neighborhood Italian that's been around long enough to bottle its own Chianti, there's more to like here than the list length suggests.

The Cheesecake Factory's wine list exists to reduce friction, not create excitement — it's a corporate safety net dressed up as a wine program. Order the Decoy, enjoy your Chicken Madeira, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that actually wants it.

Mission Farms · Overland Park · New American
Tavern at Mission Farms is a reliable neighborhood wine list — nothing that'll move you, but Wednesday half-price bottles flip the math entirely and make this worth a weekly habit. Come for the deal, not the depth.

Spin! Pizza is a perfectly fine place to eat pizza; the wine list is an afterthought that exists because restaurants need wine lists. Come on a Monday, order a bottle of Gnarly Head at half-price, and make peace with what this is.

La Bodega isn't trying to be a wine bar, but the half-price Monday and Thursday deals, Spain-focused list, and food-friendly pours make it the most fun you can have drinking wine with tapas in Kansas City. Go on a Thursday, order the Marqués de Cáceres, and don't overthink it.
