The list skews French, which at least shows some intention, even if the cocktail-forward room suggests wine is playing second fiddle. For a spot charging $31–$50 a plate, we expected a little more ambition on the bottle side.
The regional lean toward France is the right instinct for a menu built around steak tartare, escargot, and coq au vin, but without sourced list data we can't confirm the depth behind that instinct. A French-focused program in this kind of room tends to go Burgundy-lite and Bordeaux-safe — the approachable hits that upsell easily in a nightlife setting. Whether they've pushed into Rhône, Loire, or anything with actual terroir personality, we genuinely don't know. Black Cat is a Wild Card in the best way: it's a buzzy cocktail bar that actually thought about its wine program, sits in genuine wine country, and throws in a no-corkage Thursday deal that most full wine bars would never offer.
