Wingman Metrics
Walking into LaSalle Grill, the wine list signals serious intent — award-winning credentials, a sommelier on staff, and enough regional diversity to suggest someone is actually paying attention. It's not a wall of Caymus and Rombauer, which in Indiana fine dining is already a minor miracle. The price tags, however, remind you quickly that you're in a white-tablecloth room and they know it.
The list covers the predictable California heavy-hitters — Cakebread, Far Niente, Duckhorn, Jordan, Silver Oak — but earns points for reaching beyond Napa with stops in Santa Barbara (Fess Parker's Epiphany Marsanne from Rodney's Vineyard is a genuinely interesting pour), Hawke's Bay New Zealand, Mendoza Argentina, and even Bordeaux via Chateau Vieille Tour Côtes de Bordeaux. The California blockbusters dominate the midrange, and the markups there run hard — 85–95% over retail is routine. The real character shows up at the edges of the list, where the less obvious bottles live.
Fifteen to twenty options by the glass is a respectable program for a steakhouse in South Bend — that's enough range to find something worth drinking before you commit to a bottle. The Belle Glos Oeil de Perdrix Rosé showing up by the glass suggests they're not just pouring forgettable house pours. We'd want to know how frequently the selection rotates, but the count alone puts LaSalle well ahead of most comparable rooms in the region.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2019 — $110
At 69% over retail, this is the least punishing markup on the list among the California reds — and Jordan is a reliable, food-friendly Cab that doesn't need to prove itself. Bring it on a Tuesday and you're drinking a $55 bottle of genuinely good wine.
Fess Parker Epiphany Marsanne, Rodney's Vineyard (Santa Barbara)
Nobody at a steakhouse orders Marsanne. That's exactly why you should. Santa Barbara Marsanne is rich and savory with enough weight to handle cream sauces and seafood, and it signals to your table that you know what you're doing without spending like you're trying to impress them.
Orin Swift 8 Years in the Desert Red Blend 2021
At $105 with a 91% markup over a $55 retail price, you're paying a serious premium for a bottle that's become as ubiquitous on restaurant lists as it is on Instagram. It's fine wine, but it's not $105 fine — especially when Jordan Cab is sitting right there.
Chateau Vieille Tour, Côtes de Bordeaux + Prime Steak
Old-school Bordeaux and a properly cooked prime steak is one of the least complicated decisions you'll make all week. The Vieille Tour brings enough earthy structure and dark fruit to stand up to the char without overpowering the beef — and it's likely the best markup value in the red wine section.
Tuesday — Every Tuesday, LaSalle Grill offers 50% off bottles of wine. The standard promotion applies to bottles up to $150; special events have extended the discount to bottles priced up to $250.
✔️ The Bottom Line
LaSalle Grill is a genuinely solid wine program doing real work in a market that doesn't demand it — and the Tuesday half-price bottle deal is one of the best recurring wine offers in Indiana. Come on a Tuesday, order the Jordan Cab, eat a steak, and stop complaining about the markup.
Mishawaka · South Bend · Casual Seafood and Grill
Bonefish Grill Mishawaka isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — and at $6–$9 a glass with recognizable, well-stored bottles, it earns its place as a reliable option when you just want a decent pour with your salmon. Send your friends here knowing the wine won't disappoint, even if it won't surprise anyone either.

Tippecanoe Place is a beautiful room with a wine list that plays it very, very safe — fine for a anniversary dinner where the ambiance is doing most of the work, but don't come here expecting the wine to match the architecture. Order the Jordan, enjoy the mansion, and leave the exploration for another night.

Sunny Italy Cafe is a genuinely beloved South Bend institution — the food has the history and the heart. The wine list, unfortunately, is just along for the ride. Order the pasta, drink the Montepulciano, and don't expect much more than that.

Four Winds Copper Rock has built a wine list that punches well above what any casino in this zip code needs to — 450 bottles is real, and the anchoring producers are crowd-pleasing for a reason. The markups are casino-predictable and the program lacks the staff depth and rotating energy to reach its potential, but if you're eating steak in South Bend tonight, this is where you want to be drinking.
