The list at Harvest reads exactly like the room looks — upscale, approachable, and not trying too hard to impress anyone who already knows wine. You get 80-plus labels spanning the usual international suspects, with an obvious lean toward California and Italy. It's the kind of list that earns its place near Yale without scaring off the parents dropping off their kids.
Harvest covers the expected geography — California, Italy, France, with a smattering of other international stops — and does it competently. California Sauvignon Blanc gets real attention here, with Merry Edwards, Hanna, and Cakebread all represented from Russian River and Napa, which tells you the kitchen probably knows what to do with a brighter, herb-forward white. The Italian section holds its own with a Broglia Gavi di Gavi anchoring the lighter whites. What's missing is any real depth into natural wine, grower Champagne, or anything left-of-center that would make a wine-curious diner lean forward.
Twenty to thirty by-the-glass options is genuinely impressive and one of the stronger parts of this program — you can do a real comparison dinner here without committing to a bottle. Glass prices run $10 to $18, which lands in the acceptable range for a New Haven upscale spot, though it starts to sting when you do the math on some of the bottle prices. Rotation feels static rather than seasonal, which means what you see on the website is probably what you're getting.
Broglia Gavi di Gavi — $12
Gavi di Gavi from a serious producer like Broglia is an underpriced category at most restaurants, and Harvest is no exception. Crisp, mineral-driven Cortese from Piedmont that punches above whatever they're charging for it — this is the move for a light appetizer or seafood starter.
Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc
Most people see 'Sauvignon Blanc' and reach for the Cakebread out of name recognition, but Merry Edwards from Russian River is the more interesting pour — less tropical, more herbal and textured, and it comes from one of the more respected small producers working that valley. Skip the crowd-pleaser and go here.
Veuve Clicquot Brut
Veuve Clicquot is a perfectly fine Champagne that restaurants charge whatever they want for it because people recognize the yellow label. At an upscale restaurant with steep markups, you are almost certainly paying a significant premium for a name. Unless someone at the table specifically asked for it, that money goes further elsewhere on this list.
Broglia Gavi di Gavi + Pan-roasted salmon
The mineral snap and restrained fruit in a good Gavi cuts right through the fat of a pan-roasted salmon without overwhelming it. It's a textbook white-with-fish play, but Broglia executes the variety well enough that it actually delivers on that promise.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Harvest is a dependable, well-stocked wine program for a business dinner or date night near Yale — just don't expect to discover anything new. If you're ordering the Veuve, you're paying for the logo; if you're ordering the Merry Edwards or the Broglia, you're getting your money's worth.
Ninth Square / Downtown · New Haven · Chilean-inspired wine bar with Chilean, Mexican and Spanish-style tapas
Viñas is punching well above its weight class for a downtown wine bar, and the Chilean-focused list is genuinely worth your attention. If you care about South American wine at all, this is the most interesting pour in New Haven right now.

Miso is a sushi restaurant first and a wine destination never — but the Monday half-price bottle program and a well-placed Riesling keep it from falling into Lazy List territory. Come for the food, drink the Riesling, and show up on a Monday if you can.

Kamakura Sushi is a solid neighborhood sushi spot and you should absolutely go — just order sake, beer, or a soft drink and leave the wine list alone. The wine program exists in name only, and no amount of goodwill toward the kitchen changes that.

Shell & Bones is a reliable wine destination by New Haven waterfront standards — solid list, a sommelier on staff, and a happy hour that rewards the early arrivals. The markup stings a bit at full price, but the setting forgives a lot.

Heirloom is a hotel restaurant that quietly decided fortified and dessert wines were worth caring about, and that instinct alone makes it worth a detour. Don't come for a deep red wine list — come for the Tawnies, the Ben Rye, and the Madeira, and let the kitchen take care of the rest.

Skappo Merkato earns its Wild Card badge by doing something rare: committing fully to a region most restaurants ignore and making it work. If you're eating here anyway, skip the cocktail and let someone walk you through the Umbrian side of the list.

Grist earns its keep as a reliable downtown option — fair prices, a wine list that doesn't overreach, and a room worth sitting in. Send a friend here with the confidence that they won't overpay, just don't promise them a revelation.

Saints + Council isn't trying to be a wine destination, but it's not phoning it in either. The list has enough personality to reward someone who digs past the obvious picks — just expect to do that work yourself.

Covey isn't a wine destination, but it's a decent place to drink a glass of something recognizable at a price that won't wreck your evening. If you're already there for dinner, lean into the Chardonnay or the Tribunal Red and skip the Meiomi.
