Grimaldi's is a pizza institution playing it very safe on wine, and the list makes that clear in about ten seconds. Thirty-three labels, heavily weighted toward crowd-pleasing Italian whites and approachable California reds — nothing offensive, nothing surprising. It reads like a list built to sell bottles without starting conversations.
The Italian throughline is real — Antinori Santa Cristina, Rocca delle Macìe Chianti Classico, Poggiotondo Chianti, Stemmari Nero d'Avola, and Mille Gradi° Sangiovese give the list some geographic credibility for a pizzeria. But the rest leans hard into grocery-store-shelf recognition: Butter Chardonnay, Kendall-Jackson Avant, La Marca Prosecco. The Sauvignon Blanc section is oddly stacked — four labels including Loveblock and The Crossings from New Zealand — which is a curious depth in an otherwise shallow pool. DAOU and Duckhorn's Calera Chardonnay show some ambition but feel like outliers in a list that mostly just wants to move volume.
By-the-glass specifics aren't published, so we can't confirm which bottles pour by the glass or at what price. Given the roster, expect the usual suspects — La Marca, Butter Chardonnay, probably the Chianti. If there's a rotating glass program here, it's not being advertised.
Rocca delle Macìe Chianti Classico — null
For a pizzeria in suburban Texas, having a proper Chianti Classico from a solid Tuscan producer on the list is a win. It's the most food-honest bottle here — earthy, bright with acidity, made for tomato sauce and char. Skip the California bottles and go here.
Stemmari Nero d'Avola
Nobody ordering pizza in Plano is reaching for a Sicilian Nero d'Avola, which is exactly why you should. It's richer and darker than the Chiantis, handles spice well, and tends to be priced below its drinking quality. Worth the curiosity.
Butter Chardonnay
It's called Butter. The name is the whole pitch. At a pizzeria markup, you're overpaying for a heavily oaked California Chardonnay that will fight every pizza topping on the table. There are better options on this same list.
Rocca delle Macìe Chianti Classico + Margherita pizza
Sangiovese and tomato is one of the more bulletproof combinations in food and wine — the acidity in the wine mirrors the sauce, the earthiness plays off the char on the crust, and the whole thing tastes like it was planned by someone who actually thought it through. It wasn't, but it works anyway.
The Bottom Line
Grimaldi's wine list is exactly what it needs to be for a pizzeria — recognizable, inoffensive, and Italian-leaning enough to feel intentional. Just don't expect anyone behind the counter to guide you through it, and steer clear of the California crowd-pleasers when the Tuscans are right there.

What we have here is a six-bottle wine dinner roster masquerading as a wine program — and every one of those bottles comes from the same producer family. That's not a wine list, that's a sponsorship. Until Del Frisco's Grille Plano puts actual curation into its wine program, we'd suggest leaning into the cocktail menu instead.

Fogo de Chão Plano isn't trying to be a wine destination and doesn't pretend otherwise — but that all-day $6 happy hour on South American wines, anchored by solid producers like Alamos and Calina, gives the list a practical generosity that earns it some respect. If you're here for the churrasco experience, the Catena Malbec at $12 is your move. Wine enthusiasts should calibrate expectations accordingly, but nobody's walking away feeling gouged.

Del Frisco's Plano delivers a wine list that does its job without doing anything exciting — it's competent, recognizable, and priced for a room where the company card is doing the heavy lifting. If you're here for the steak and want a bottle that won't embarrass you, the list handles that. If you're here to drink well on your own dime, the markup will sting.

Taverna – Legacy West is a solid Italian restaurant with a wine program that reflects its roots in northern Italy — if you stick to the regional Italian selections, you're probably in good shape. We'd love more transparency on pricing and pour options before giving it a stronger endorsement, but for Legacy West, this clears the bar comfortably. Go for the branzino and ask your server what's drinking well from the Piedmont section.

The Mercury is a safe, competent wine list for a polished New American in Plano — you won't be stuck drinking something bad, but you probably won't discover anything new either.
