Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Field's Italian reads like it was built to reassure people, not excite them. You'll recognize every name on it, which is either a comfort or a warning sign depending on how you feel about Santa Margherita. For a boutique hotel restaurant with $40+ entrees, we'd hoped for a little more ambition.
The list skews Italian-adjacent without going deep — you get Chianti Classico from Ruffino and Pinot Grigio from Santa Margherita, which are fine, but these are grocery store staples dressed up in a white tablecloth setting. There's a Mediterranean lean that fits the cuisine, but the producers feel more like a distributor's safe list than any kind of curated vision. No regional Italian surprises here — no Sagrantino, no Etna Rosso, no Vermentino to speak of. The California contingent with Meiomi Pinot Noir signals the list is hedging toward crowd-pleaser territory rather than doubling down on the Italian identity.
Eight to fourteen pours by the glass is a reasonable spread, and the $9–$15 price point is accessible for the market. That said, when Whispering Angel Rosé is your glass pour headline, you're playing it very safe — it's the wine equivalent of a greatest hits album. We'd love to see a rotating Italian regional pour sneak in here.
Ruffino Chianti Classico — $30
At the low end of the bottle range, Ruffino Chianti Classico is a dependable Sangiovese that actually makes sense with the pasta-forward menu. Not exciting, but honest wine at a price that doesn't make you wince.
Whispering Angel Rosé
Everyone orders it in the Hamptons, but on the Gulf Coast with a plate of fresh burrata or arancini on a warm evening, it actually earns its keep. It's not underrated — but it's underappreciated here specifically, where it fits the vibe better than it does at half the trendy spots it ends up on.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
This is a $15 bottle at Costco. Whatever they're charging at a $40-entree restaurant, the math doesn't work in your favor. There are better bottles on this list for the money.
Ruffino Chianti Classico + House-made tagliatelle
Sangiovese's natural acidity and tomato-friendly tannins were basically designed for a long-pull pasta with a rich meat or marinara sauce. This is the most Italian thing you can do at Field's, and it's the right call.
The Bottom Line
Field's Italian is a good restaurant that plays it safe with wine — you won't be offended, but you won't be wowed either. If you're in Ocean Springs and want something reliably drinkable with your pasta, it gets the job done; just don't come expecting discovery.

Bull's is a reliable casino steakhouse wine list — not adventurous, not cheap, but staffed by someone who cares and stocked with bottles that hold up. Send a friend here if they're already at the casino; don't drive to Biloxi just for the wine.
