Margaritas Are the Move Here

The wine list at El Torito Riverside is less a curated selection and more a placeholder — something to hand you while you decide between a margarita and a paloma. It's short, unadventurous, and clearly an afterthought in a room where the real action is happening at the bar.
We're looking at a list of maybe 10 to 20 bottles leaning almost entirely on California and Chilean mass-market producers. Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi and Frontera are the headliners, which tells you everything you need to know — these are grocery store wines that show up wherever someone needs a wine list but doesn't want to think about one. There's no regional depth, no interesting producers, and nothing here that reflects the complexity of the food being served. The mole enchiladas deserve better than this.
Five to ten pours in the $7–$12 range, which is at least priced honestly for what you're getting. Don't expect a rotation or anything seasonal — what's on the list today is probably what was on it six months ago. Grab a pour if you need something in your hand, but the cocktail program is doing more work.
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Chardonnay — $8
At the low end of the glass price range, it's an honest pour at an honest price. Not exciting, but it won't ruin your night either — and that's the best compliment we can offer here.
Frontera Cabernet Sauvignon
Chilean Cab at this price point punches above its weight for a casual weeknight dinner. It's a simple, fruit-forward wine that actually has enough structure to hold up against the carnitas.
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Chardonnay
If you're ordering more than one glass, you're paying restaurant prices for a bottle you can grab at Vons for $8. Just order the margarita.
Frontera Cabernet Sauvignon + Carnitas
The Cab's dark fruit and mild tannins don't fight with the slow-cooked pork — they actually play along. It's a low-stakes pairing that works better than it has any right to.
❌ The Bottom Line
El Torito Riverside is not a wine destination and has no ambitions to be one. Come for the tableside guacamole, the carnitas, and the cocktails — and let the wine list collect dust.
Canyon Crest · Riverside · Winery Bistro
Canyon Crest Winery is a genuine local gem for Riverside residents who want to drink well without driving to Temecula. It's not a deep-list destination, but for a casual pour at fair prices in a relaxed setting, it earns its spot on the map.

Sizzler's wine program is a formality, not a feature. Come for the salad bar and the cheese toast, order a soda or a beer, and save your wine curiosity for literally anywhere else.

Yard House is a beer destination that happens to pour wine, and the wine list knows its place. Unless you're genuinely stuck here and need something in a glass, skip the wine, order a craft draft, and let the beer list do what it was built to do.

Cask 'n Cleaver isn't a destination for wine, but it's not embarrassing either — come for the prime rib, pick Jordan Cab, and call it a solid night. If you're serious about the bottle, check the markup before you commit.

Islands Riverside is not a wine destination and makes no attempt to be one — the list is an afterthought bolted onto a beverage program built around beer and cocktails. Order a cold beer or a tropical cocktail, enjoy your burger, and save the wine for a different night.

Come to Chevys Riverside for the fajitas, the tableside guac, and absolutely the margaritas — the wine list is there for completeness, not conviction. If wine is your priority tonight, this is the wrong zip code.

El Torito is not a wine destination — it's a margarita destination, and you should respect that boundary. If someone at the table insists on wine, point them toward the white house pour and move on with your evening.

Tortilla Jo's wine list is a tourist trap in list form — overpriced for what it is, underdeveloped for where it sits, and completely indifferent to the cuisine it's supposed to accompany. Order a margarita and move on.

Orale isn't a wine destination, but it's a casual Mexican spot that earned a Wild Card badge by putting a Bonny Doon orange wine and a proper Albariño on a short, accessible, fairly priced list. Send a friend here who thinks Mexican restaurants don't do wine — they'll leave surprised.
