Wingman Metrics
Eddie V's walks in wearing a tuxedo and it means it. The wine program fits the room — polished, California-and-Italy-forward, built for expense accounts and anniversaries. Nothing about it tries to surprise you, but that's not really the point here.
The list leans on the familiar pillars of an upscale American seafood house: California dominates, with Italian selections rounding out the international side. It's a list that prioritizes crowd comfort over discovery — you'll find the producers and regions you'd expect at this price point, executed with care. There are no obvious gaps for the clientele, but adventurous drinkers looking for grower Champagne or anything left-of-center may come up short. What's here is curated to work with a menu of Chilean sea bass and center-cut filets, and it does that job well.
We don't have a confirmed glass pour count, but given the format and price point of the restaurant, expect a respectable selection oriented toward whites that flatter seafood and reds that handle a filet. The V-Lounge bar setting makes by-the-glass a natural move here — it's the right place to linger over a single pour and catch the live jazz.
The Bottom Line
Eddie V's is a reliable wine destination in the sense that a well-pressed suit is reliable — it won't let you down, but it won't make anyone's year-end list either. If you're on a date, celebrating something, or just need a wine program that won't embarrass you in front of a client, this is a safe and comfortable call. Just don't expect to find anything that makes you pull out your phone to take a note.

Fogo de Chão Austin is not a destination wine list, but it's a legitimately fair one — South American focus, honest prices, and a couple of genuine steals hiding in plain sight. If you're here for the espeto corrido experience, grab a VIK blend at $30 and don't overthink it.

Sammie's is a genuinely fun room with a wine list that's earned its Wine Spectator hardware — the Italian depth is real, the sommelier knows her stuff, and Monday half-price bottles might be the best deal in Austin. Just go in knowing the markups lean steep, and let Jenny point you toward the plays that aren't on the tourist track.

Ciclo is a reliable, well-run California-centric wine program that does exactly what it says on the menu — it just charges you for the privilege. If you're here for the steakhouse experience and want a Cab that won't embarrass you, Joe Pena's list delivers. Just don't expect to be surprised.

Birdie's has no business being this good at wine for a neighborhood spot on East 12th — and that's the highest compliment we can give it. Send your friends here, tell them to order Burgundy, and let them figure out on their own that this place is a wild card worth knowing.

Eddie V's is a reliable choice if someone else is picking up the tab and you want a well-maintained list with competent staff to guide you through it. For a self-funded wine night, the likely markups at this price point mean you're paying for the room as much as the bottle — which is fine, as long as you know that going in.

Eddie V's Cherry Hill is a dependable pick when the occasion calls for polish and you don't want to think too hard about the wine list. A sommelier on staff gives us some confidence, but the list skews expensive and conventional — this is not the place to geek out or find a deal. Go for the Shellfish Tower, let the staff guide the pour, and budget accordingly.
