Great Pizza, Forgot the Wine List Existed

The wine list at Durkin's fits on a Post-it note — six labels, all California, all names you've seen at the grocery store checkout aisle. This is clearly a beer-and-pizza operation that added wine because someone asked, not because anyone cared.
Six bottles. That's it. Mirassou and Canyon Road anchor the list, which tells you everything you need to know — these are supermarket brands that retail for under $10 a bottle and show up on every low-effort wine list from here to suburban Ohio. Louis Martini Cab is the lone name with any actual winemaking credibility behind it, but it's still mass-market California sunshine in a bottle. There are no Italian options, which feels like a genuine missed opportunity for a pizzeria — no Chianti, no Montepulciano, no Barbera. The whole list reads like someone called their wine distributor and said 'just send whatever.'
All six bottles are available by the glass, which at least means nothing is locked behind a bottle minimum. Prices run $6.99 to $9.99 a glass, and there's no rotation or seasonal pour program to speak of — what you see today is what you'll see in six months.
Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon — $9.99/glass, $30/bottle
It's the only label on this list with a real winery reputation behind it. Louis Martini has been making Cab in Sonoma since 1933 — it's still mass-market, but it drinks well above the Mirassou tier and at $30 a bottle it's the closest thing to a fair deal on this list.
Canyon Road Pinot Grigio
Nobody orders Pinot Grigio at a pizza joint, which is exactly why you should. It's cold, crisp, low-stakes, and cuts through cheese and grease better than any red on this list. Expectations are on the floor — it'll meet them just fine.
Mirassou Chardonnay
At $6.99 a glass it sounds cheap, but Mirassou Chardonnay retails for around $7–8 a bottle — you're paying nearly bottle price for a single pour of one of the most unremarkable Chardonnays in California production. Order a craft beer instead.
Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon + Pepperoni Pizza
The Cab's dark fruit and mild tannins hold up against the fat and salt of the pepperoni without bullying the cheese. It's not a revelation, but it's the best match this list can offer, and it actually works.
❌ The Bottom Line
Durkin's is a legitimately good pizza spot that happens to have a wine list in the same way a convenience store has a wine list — it's there, it's functional, and nobody's proud of it. Come for the pies, order the beer, and if you must have wine, go Louis Martini and don't overthink it.

BJ's McKinney is a beer destination with a wine list that exists mostly as a formality — the Wednesday half-price deal is the only reason to engage with it seriously. Come for the craft beer and the Pazookie; the wine is just along for the ride.

P.F. Chang's wine list won't win any awards, but it's doing exactly what it needs to do for a busy suburban dinner crowd. Don't come here for a wine experience — but don't write it off either, especially if you know what to order.

Saltgrass McKinney is a reliable spot for a Texas-style steak, but the wine list is clearly not why anyone is driving out here. Unless you're sticking to the J. Lohr Pinot or talking someone into splitting the Hampton Water, you're better off ordering a cocktail and calling it a night.

Blue Goose is a perfectly fun Tex-Mex night out — just don't come here for the wine. Order a margarita, eat the tamales, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that returns the favor.

Harry's is a reliable neighborhood anchor for McKinney — the kind of place you bring out-of-town family without stressing about it. The wine list won't blow anyone's mind, but it won't embarrass you either; just steer clear of the grocery-store staples and lean toward the upper end of the bottle list.

The Yard is a patio-and-games spot first, wine bar never — and the list is honest about that. Come for the atmosphere, order the Murphy Goode if you want wine, and save the serious bottle for somewhere else.
