The list at Denim & Oak reads like a greatest hits of American wine retail shelves — familiar labels, approachable prices, and a format that makes it easy to order without overthinking. It's not trying to impress a wine nerd, and it doesn't pretend to. What it does offer is a surprisingly generous BTG program that keeps things accessible for a riverfront dinner crowd.
The list leans hard on California — Michael David shows up three times with the Petite Petit, Freakshow Cab, and Earthquake Zin — which tells you exactly who this list was built for. There are some genuinely decent bottles in the mix though: the Four Graces Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley and the Northstar Merlot out of Washington State both punch above the usual steakhouse-adjacent fare. International representation is thin but present — Susana Balbo's Malbec from Argentina and the Shatter Grenache (an Orin Swift project out of Maury, France) add just enough intrigue to keep things from feeling completely predictable. The big gap here is anything remotely European beyond that one French outlier — no Italian, no Spanish, no German, no Champagne worth noting.
With at least 20 options available by the glass, Denim & Oak is serious about letting guests drink well without committing to a bottle — a smart move for a casual riverside spot. Glass pours run $10–$22, which is honest pricing for this market. The range spans reds, whites, and rosé, though the rotation feels more set-and-forget than truly curated.
Susana Balbo Malbec — $13/glass (est.)
Susana Balbo makes genuinely serious Malbec — structured, aromatic, and a tier above the usual Mendoza plonk you see on lists like this. If the glass price lands around the low-to-mid range of their BTG spread, it's the best dollar-for-dollar pour on the menu.
Shatter Grenache (Maury, France — Orin Swift project)
Most people at this restaurant are ordering the Freakshow Cab without a second thought. That's fine. But the Shatter Grenache — a dark, brooding Southern French red from Orin Swift — is the wildcard on an otherwise predictable list, and it rewards the curious diner who takes five seconds to read past the California section.
Concha y Toro Cabernet
It's a $12 bottle at Total Wine. No matter what they're charging here, the math doesn't work in your favor. There are better options on this same list for the same or similar money.
Four Graces Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley, Oregon) + Grilled salmon or duck (if available on the American dinner menu)
Willamette Pinot has the acidity and earthiness to cut through rich proteins without overwhelming them — it's the move anytime a kitchen is doing something with duck or salmon, which fits squarely in the American bistro wheelhouse Denim & Oak is working in.
Wednesday — Wine Down Wednesday — exact discount and eligibility (bottles vs. BTG) not confirmed, but the restaurant actively promotes it. Confirm details with the restaurant before planning around it. A Saturday wine tasting special ($10 for 4 wines) has also been noted on social.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Denim & Oak isn't going to make anyone's wine pilgrimage list, but for Columbus, Georgia, it's a legitimately decent place to drink — fair prices, a deep BTG program, and Wine Down Wednesday as a reason to come back. Just steer clear of the Concha y Toro and head straight for the Orin Swift or the Oregon section.

Red Lobster 13th St. is not a wine destination — it's a seafood chain where wine exists because a menu has to have one. Order the Riesling with your lobster tail, enjoy the Cheddar Bay Biscuits, and make your peace with it.

Ivory & Oak is a reliable wine stop in a city that isn't exactly crawling with serious lists — the room is great, the pours are familiar, and the markup is the main thing holding it back from something better. Go for the steak, order the Merlot, and don't expect to be challenged.

If you're stuck at the DoubleTree and the flight is delayed, Houlihan's will keep you fed and adequately watered — but don't mistake that for a wine program worth seeking out. Order the Etude Pinot or the Malbec, skip the sangria, and manage your expectations accordingly.

This is airport-adjacent chain wine, full stop — familiar labels at inflated prices for a captive audience that mostly wants something cold and wet after traveling. Order a cocktail instead, or hit the hotel bar and call it a night.

The Rail Pub is not here to advance your wine education, and that's fine — it's a pub, it sells beer, and the wine list exists as an afterthought for the table that didn't want beer. Order the J. Lohr if you need a glass of something real; otherwise, get a pint and stop looking at the wine menu.

Ruby Tuesday's wine program is a placeholder, not a program — two grocery store bottles and a price tag that's at least fair for what it is. Order a cocktail, drink a beer, and save the wine drinking for somewhere that's trying.
