You flip open the drink menu at Cowboy Jack's and the wine section feels like a gas station endcap — Canyon Road, Apothic, Prophecy, repeat. It's not that these are offensive wines, it's that whoever built this list put in about forty-five minutes of effort and called it a day.
Fifteen labels, six of which are Canyon Road at $28 a bottle — that's the whole Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cab, Merlot, Moscato, and Pinot Grigio lineup, basically a supermarket variety pack. The upper tier swaps in William Hill, Whitehaven, Ecco Domani, Apothic, Prophecy, and Alamos Malbec, which is a mild upgrade but still deeply familiar grocery-store territory. There's no old world presence, no regional curiosity, no natural wine, no aged anything — just the most recognizable names in the least adventurous configuration possible. The Alamos Malbec is arguably the most interesting bottle on the list, and that's a low bar.
All fifteen bottles are available by the glass in the $7–$10 range, which sounds generous until you realize you're basically choosing between six Canyon Roads and nine other mass-market standbys. There's no rotation, no chalk board special, no seasonal surprise — what's printed is what you get, indefinitely.
Alamos Malbec — $40
It's the most food-forward bottle on the list — Mendoza Malbec at least offers some dark fruit structure that holds up to a steak, and Alamos is a legitimate producer at a price that doesn't feel like highway robbery relative to the rest of the menu.
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc
It gets lost next to the Canyon Road crowd, but Whitehaven from Marlborough is a genuinely good bottle — bright, focused, grassy with real acidity. At $40, it's not a steal, but it's the most credible white on the list by a wide margin.
Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio
Ecco Domani retails for around $10 at most liquor stores. At $40 a bottle here, you're paying a 4x markup for one of the most forgettable Pinot Grigios on the market. Hard pass.
Alamos Malbec + Ribeye
Malbec and beef is the most obvious pairing in the book, but it's obvious for a reason — the dark fruit and soft tannins in the Alamos actually complement a ribeye's fat without overwhelming it, and it's the only bottle here with enough backbone to earn its place next to red meat.
The Bottom Line
Cowboy Jack's wine list is what happens when a bar treats wine as an afterthought — fine for someone who just wants a glass of something red, but there's no reason to make a wine decision here. Order a whiskey instead.

Mona Lisa's wine list is a Champagne wall bolted onto a very thin foundation — great if you're popping Cristal for a birthday, but there's almost nothing to recommend for a normal dinner out. Order the Chablis or the Chianti and don't look too hard at anything else.

The Edge isn't going to win any awards for wine ambition, but it's honest, fairly priced, and perfectly calibrated for what it is — a classic supper club where the wine list supports the meal without getting in the way. Send a friend here for the prime rib, and tell them to order the Borgonero.

Johnny's Pizza Shop is a solid neighborhood pizza spot that treats wine as a beverage category, not a program. Come for the pizza, order a beer or a $10 glass of Mark West if you need wine, and save the serious bottle for the steakhouse next time.

Grizzly's wine list won't win any awards, but it's functional enough for a neighborhood grill where the real star is whatever's coming off the wood fire. Stick to the Trapiche or the Ruffino, take the $1 off at the bar during happy hour, and save your wine ambitions for somewhere else.

Johnny's is doing the most with a crowd-pleasing formula — 160 bottles, a Wine Spectator nod, and a list that won't offend anyone. Markups on the trophy bottles are hard to defend, but if you know where to look, there's a solid night of wine here for a reasonable bill.
