The name isn't subtle, and neither is the intent — Corks is a neighborhood restaurant that leads with wine, not the other way around. The list reads like someone actually cared when they built it: there's geographic range, a few prestige bottles, and enough mid-range picks to make a Tuesday dinner feel considered. It's not trying to impress you with length, but what's here is purposeful.
California anchors the list with expected heavy hitters — Caymus Special Selection and Joseph Phelps represent the Napa crowd — but the presence of Domaine Serene's Evanstad Reserve signals that Oregon gets a real seat at the table here, not just a token pinot. New Zealand shows up with two Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs (Greg Norman Estates and Babich), France and Italy fill supporting roles, and Argentina rounds out the international spread. The range from $20 to $266 gives the list real breadth without feeling padded. We'd love to see more adventurous producers sneak in alongside the safe big names, but this is a solid working list.
Ten-plus options by the glass is a strong showing for a neighborhood spot, and the price range of $7–$14 keeps things accessible without bottoming out into house wine purgatory. We don't have the full glass pour lineup, but with a sommelier on staff, there's reason to believe the pours rotate with some intention. Ask what's new — the person taking your order likely actually knows.
Babich Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough — $47
Babich is a consistently reliable Marlborough producer at a price that doesn't punish you for ordering a second bottle. At $47, it's priced at a fair restaurant markup without gouging — which, for a crowd-pleasing white that actually delivers, earns its keep.
Domaine Serene 'Evanstad Reserve' 2019 Willamette Valley
Most tables at a place like this gravitate toward the Caymus and call it a night. The Evanstad Reserve is the better story — a benchmark Willamette Valley Pinot from one of Oregon's serious producers, and at $139 it's one of the more intellectually interesting bottles on the list. The people ordering it know what they're doing.
Caymus 'Special Selection' 2018 Napa Valley
At $259, you're paying a significant premium for a bottle that's become more of a brand than a wine. The Special Selection is good — it's always good — but it's also one of the most over-ordered, over-allocated bottles in American restaurants. You can do better here for less.
Joseph Phelps 2021 Napa Valley + Ask your server for the current meat or steak feature
Joseph Phelps Insignia-adjacent Napa red at $120 is built for exactly the kind of hearty American plate that Corks is likely running as a feature. The structure and dark fruit hold up to red meat without overwhelming it — it's the kind of pairing that makes the bottle feel like a deal.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Corks earns its name — this is a wine-first neighborhood restaurant that treats its list with real respect, staffs it accordingly, and prices it without obvious greed. If you're in Federal Hill and want a bottle that someone actually thought about, this is your spot.
Clipper Mill · Baltimore · American, Farm to Table
True Chesapeake is a Wild Card in the best possible sense — a working waterfront oyster spot with a Wine Spectator-recognized list helmed by a sommelier who clearly cares. Go for the oysters, stay for the Weinbach, and don't skip the Muscadet.

Horseshoe Casino · Baltimore · Steak house, European
Gordon Ramsay Steak isn't going to surprise you, but it delivers a solid, award-backed California-and-France wine list in a setting where you'd half-expect to be handed a laminated card with three options. For a casino steakhouse in Baltimore, that's genuinely worth something.

Harbor East · Baltimore · Steak House
The Ruxton is the rare steakhouse where the wine list is a genuine reason to show up, not just a formality next to the beef. Send a friend here, tell them to skip the Caymus, and let Patrick Owens point them somewhere better.

Bygone is the kind of wine list that makes Baltimore dinner reservations worth planning around. The markups are real, but the depth, the sommelier, and the setting make this one of the better places to spend money on a serious bottle on the East Coast.

Little Italy · Baltimore · Italian
La Tavola isn't a wine destination, but it earns its keep as a solid neighborhood Italian with a list that at least respects where the kitchen is coming from. Order the Vermentino, enjoy the Shrimp & Calamari, and don't overthink it.

The Helmand isn't a wine destination, but it's a Wild Card worth betting on — a 30-year-old Afghan institution that's put enough thought into its list to make the right bottle genuinely accessible. Go for the Cigare Volant, order the lamb, and enjoy the fact that this place still exists.

Catablu is exactly what it needs to be for its neighborhood — a reliable, thoughtfully maintained list that won't embarrass you on a date night or bore you entirely. It's not a destination wine list, but it's a solid supporting act for a kitchen that clearly takes food seriously.

BJ's is a fine place to drink a craft beer and eat a Pizookie. It is not a place to drink wine. Order a Brewhouse Blonde, skip the wine list entirely, and save your wine night for somewhere that cares.

The Cheesecake Factory is a perfectly fine place to eat — the wine list just isn't a reason to go. Order a cocktail, split a bottle of Santa Margherita if you must, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that earned it.
