Wingman Metrics
You open the drink menu at a French restaurant in Topeka expecting something — anything — with a little Gallic soul. What you get is two wines, both from the same California mass-market label. That's not a wine list. That's a backup plan.
The entire wine program at Chez Yasu consists of Leaping Horse Cabernet Sauvignon and Leaping Horse Chardonnay, both at $36 a bottle. Leaping Horse is a bulk California brand you'll find at grocery stores for around $8-10 retail — so the markup here is punishing relative to what you're getting. There is no nod to France, no regional exploration, no attempt to match the cuisine with something even remotely thematic. For a restaurant calling itself French, the absence of a single Burgundy, Loire white, Côtes du Rhône, or even a Beaujolais is a real miss.
Both bottles are available by the glass at $9, which is the only upside here — at least you're not forced into a full bottle of something unremarkable. Two options is technically a by-the-glass program, but barely. There's no rotation happening, no seasonal swap, no reason to expect anything different on your next visit.
The Bottom Line
Chez Yasu clearly puts its energy into the kitchen, not the cellar — but two grocery-store wines at a notable markup is not a wine program, it's an oversight. Order water, order a cocktail, or call ahead and ask about corkage.

Blue Moose isn't here for wine, and wine isn't here for Blue Moose. Order a local draft and call it a day — but if you absolutely need a glass, reach for the La Vieille Ferme Rosé and manage your expectations accordingly.

La Marmotte isn't trying to be a wine bar — it's a cozy French bistro that happens to have a genuinely thoughtful, all-French, all-glass list that punches well above the Telluride baseline. If you're eating duck confit in the mountains and someone hands you JL Chave Syrah for $26, you say yes.
