Wingman Metrics
On The Border is a national chain cantina, and the wine program reads exactly like that — an afterthought tucked behind the margarita menu. The list exists, technically, but it's not why anyone is here, and the restaurant isn't pretending otherwise.
Without a published wine list to dig into, there's not much to analyze — and that's sort of the point. Chain Tex-Mex operations like this one typically lean on a handful of recognizable mass-market labels that cover the bases without challenging anyone. Expect the usual suspects by region and grape, nothing that required a buyer with an actual opinion. The spirit of the program is: wine is available if you insist.
The by-the-glass situation is unclear from available sources, but the happy hour menu leans hard into sangria and margaritas — which honestly tells you everything you need to know about where the priorities are. If you're committed to a glass of wine here, you're swimming upstream against a menu that would really rather you ordered a frozen concoction.
The Bottom Line
This is a chips-and-salsa-and-a-margarita situation, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The wine program is a placeholder, not a destination — if wine is your priority for the evening, On The Border is not your stop in Topeka.

Chez Yasu clearly puts its energy into the kitchen, not the cellar — but two grocery-store wines at a notable markup is not a wine program, it's an oversight. Order water, order a cocktail, or call ahead and ask about corkage.

Blue Moose isn't here for wine, and wine isn't here for Blue Moose. Order a local draft and call it a day — but if you absolutely need a glass, reach for the La Vieille Ferme Rosé and manage your expectations accordingly.

Jose Pepper's is a great spot for a frozen margarita and a chimichanga — the wine list just isn't why you're here, and it knows it. Order the cocktails and don't look back.

The wine list at Olive Garden East Topeka is a corporate document, not a wine program — marked up steeply on bottles that deserve no such confidence. Order a cocktail, split a bottle of the house Chianti if you must, and save your wine curiosity for literally anywhere else in Topeka.

The wine list exists because every Italian restaurant has to have one — not because anyone here is passionate about it. Drink the Cavit, enjoy the unlimited breadsticks, and save the serious wine drinking for somewhere else.

Red Lobster's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a national chain that treats wine as an afterthought — familiar names, steep markups, zero curation. Order the Riesling, enjoy the Cheddar Bay Biscuits, and don't come here looking for a wine moment.

This is a margarita restaurant with a wine list that exists only so no one has to say there isn't one. Come for the fajitas and the frozen drinks — the wine is strictly last resort.

Order the margarita. Seriously. But if someone at the table insists on wine, the Barefoot pours are priced so close to retail that you're not getting hurt — just don't expect anything more than that.

Maria Bonita is a genuinely fun spot to eat, but the wine program is a non-event — grab a margarita or a cold beer and save the wine conversation for somewhere else. Come for the fajitas, not the Frontera.
