Wingman Metrics
Opening a wine list at a resort restaurant in Sedona, you brace for the worst — inflated tourism pricing, a handful of recognizable labels, and nothing that required a second thought. Che Ah Chi disabuses you of that notion fast. This is a list built by someone who actually cares, with names like Domaine Leroy and Screaming Eagle sitting alongside Ridge Monte Bello as if that's just how things are done here.
The 200-plus selection list leans hard into California and Burgundy — which, given the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence earned in 2024, tracks exactly. On the California side, you're looking at serious horsepower: Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay, Paul Hobbs Cabernet, Harlan Estate, Sine Qua Non, and Opus One all make appearances, covering the full spectrum from cult to classic. The Burgundy section pulls real weight too, with Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti on the shelf for those who want to mark the occasion in the most expensive way legally possible. Gaps exist — if you're hunting for natural wine or an Iberian deep cut, you'll come up empty — but within its lane, this list is legitimately formidable.
With 20 to 35 options by the glass, Che Ah Chi is doing more work here than most resort programs bother with. The range skews toward California and France, which makes sense given the cellar's strengths. Sommelier Danny Picard oversees the program, and that stewardship shows — the glass pours feel curated rather than just whatever needed to move.
Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon — $150
Monte Bello consistently trades punches with bottles twice its price on the secondary market. At a resort where the altitude of the wine list runs high, this is the bottle that delivers the most prestige per dollar — and it has decades of track record to back it up.
Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet
Most guests eyeing this list are hunting for California cult reds, which means the Leflaive gets overlooked. That's a mistake. Puligny-Montrachet from Leflaive is one of the benchmark white Burgundies on the planet, and ordering it against the canyon backdrop at sunset is one of those quietly perfect wine moments.
Opus One
Opus One is a well-made wine that has also become a shorthand for 'I want to spend money on something recognizable.' At resort markups, you're paying a premium on top of an already premium-priced bottle of brand recognition. With Harlan and Ridge both on the same list, the money goes further elsewhere.
Kistler Vineyards Chardonnay + Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast
Kistler's Chardonnay has the richness and texture to stand up to smoked salmon's intensity, while its bright acidity cuts through the avocado's fat without steamrolling the dish. It's a morning or afternoon pour that feels indulgent without being heavy-handed.
🔥 The Bottom Line
Che Ah Chi is the rare resort wine program that earns its reputation rather than coasting on the scenery. Bring a patient wallet and let Danny Picard point you somewhere you wouldn't find on your own.
Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village · Sedona · French, Mediterranean
René is exactly what Sedona's most romantic restaurant should be — a confident, California-focused list with a knowledgeable hand steering it, served in a setting that does half the work for you. It's not a destination wine list, but it's a genuinely reliable one that won't let you down on a special night out.

Dahl & Di Luca won't surprise you, but it will take care of you — a well-maintained Italian-and-California list in a genuinely romantic room deserves the nearly two decades of Wine Spectator recognition it's earned. Bring someone you want to impress, order the Barolo, skip the Caymus.

Story Hill BKC is the rare neighborhood restaurant where the wine list is genuinely worth your attention — Gaja and Tignanello sitting next to back bacon and baked eggs is the kind of delightful absurdity we fully endorse. Send your wine-curious friends here and let them be surprised.

Look, you're not coming to the Grand Canyon to drink wine — but if you're eating at El Tovar, you could do a lot worse than a Jordan Cab on the rim at sunset. The Wild Card badge isn't about the list itself; it's about where you're drinking it.
