The Fish Is Fine, Skip The Wine List

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Bonefish Grill reads like it was assembled by a committee whose only mandate was 'nothing too weird.' You get the hits — Kim Crawford, Meiomi — names you'd find at any suburban grocery store with a wine aisle. It's not offensive, but it's not trying either.
Forty to sixty bottles sounds reasonable until you realize a sizable chunk of that is just varietal marquee names from California and New Zealand, with a token nod to France. There's no real depth here — no interesting producers, no regional curiosity, no reason to linger on the list. California and New Zealand do the heavy lifting, and France is mostly window dressing. If you're hoping to find something you haven't already seen at Applebee's, lower your expectations before you sit down.
With 12-18 by-the-glass options, the pour list is at least functional — you won't be stuck with only one white. But the lineup leans hard on the same crowd-pleasing brands that dominate the bottle list, so variety is more about red/white/rosé checkboxes than any real range of styles or regions. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — $12
If you're going to drink something here, this is the call. It's a known quantity, it works with seafood, and it won't surprise you — which at a place like this is the whole point.
French white selection
Whatever French white is currently on the list tends to get overlooked in favor of the New Zealand and California heavyweights — worth asking your server what's pouring from France, as it occasionally punches above the rest of the list.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Meiomi is a $14 retail bottle dressed up in a restaurant price tag. It's sweet, soft, and designed to please everyone — which means it pleases no one who actually cares about Pinot Noir. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Bang Bang Shrimp
The bright citrus and grassy snap of the Kim Crawford cuts through the creamy, spicy sauce on the Bang Bang Shrimp better than anything else on this list. It's not a revelation, but it works — and that's about as good as it gets here.
❌ The Bottom Line
Bonefish Grill is a perfectly fine place to eat fish in Naperville — the wine list is just furniture. Order a cocktail or a glass of Kim Crawford, enjoy your Bang Bang Shrimp, and don't overthink it.
Downtown Naperville · Naperville · American pub / burgers
Jackson Avenue Pub is not a wine destination, but Wine Wednesdays at half-price make it a legitimately smart stop if you're already there for a burger and a game. Come for the beer, stay for the deal.

Hugo's Naperville is a reliable, well-run steakhouse wine program that will not let you down and will not excite you. Come for the prime beef and oysters, order the Jordan or the Duckhorn, and don't look too hard at the markup on the Pinot Grigio.

Fat Rosie's is a genuinely fun taco and tequila spot that has no business being reviewed for its wine — and that's kind of the point. If your table wants wine, order cocktails instead and save everyone the disappointment.

Vasili's isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the Greek-focused list has enough genuine producers and interesting grapes to reward curious drinkers — especially on Tuesdays when the bottles go half-price. Watch the markups on the Agiorgitiko, lean into the northern Greek reds and the Malagousia, and you'll eat and drink very well along that riverwalk.

Lou Malnati's is a legitimately iconic pizza destination — but the wine list is an afterthought, marked up on cheap bottles with zero curation or ambition. Come for the deep dish, drink beer, and save the wine night for somewhere that cares.

Hotel Arista / CityGate Centre · Naperville · Italian
Che Figata is the rare suburban hotel restaurant with a wine list worth actually engaging with — Italian-focused, sommelier-guided, and broad enough to reward exploration. The markups sting on a few bottles, but the range and program depth make this the best wine bet in Naperville's CityGate orbit.
