The wine list at Boca Coal Fired Bistro does exactly what you'd expect from a casual Italian bistro in Atlantic City — it leans hard into recognizable names and plays it safe. Nothing here is going to make your jaw drop, but it also won't make you send the bottle back. It's a list built to move product, not to impress.
The list orbits Italy and California without much deviation, which at least makes sense given the kitchen's focus. You'll find the usual suspects — Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, Ruffino Chianti Classico — names that every distributor's rep has been pushing for 20 years. There's no real depth here; no small producers, no regional Italian wildcards, nothing from Abruzzo or Campania that might actually match the coal-fired food better. If you're hoping to find a Nerello Mascalese or even a solid Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, keep looking.
The by-the-glass program runs 8 to 14 options and tops out around $18, which is fine for Atlantic City. La Marca Prosecco makes the predictable appearance, and Meiomi Pinot Noir is there for the crowd that wants something easy and approachable. Rotation appears nonexistent — this looks like a set-it-and-forget-it pour list that hasn't changed since the menu printed.
Ruffino Chianti Classico — $14
It's a familiar name but Chianti Classico is genuinely built for tomato-based pasta and coal-fired pizza — the acidity does real work here, and at this price point it's the most honest pour on the list.
La Marca Prosecco
Most people order it as an afterthought, but crack a glass of this alongside the calamari or eggplant parmigiana before your entrée and it actually punches above its weight — the bubbles and crisp finish cut through the fried richness better than any still wine on the list.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio
It's a $12 retail bottle that every restaurant in America marks up to the stratosphere. At an estimated $15–$18 a glass, you're paying a lot for a wine that's perfectly adequate but never exciting — and there's no reason to do that when the Chianti Classico is sitting right there.
Ruffino Chianti Classico + Coal-fired pizza
Chianti Classico was practically engineered for this scenario — high acidity, earthy cherry fruit, and enough tannin to stand up to the char and tomato. It's the only wine on this list that actually earns its place next to what's coming out of that coal oven.

Boca Coal Fired Bistro is a reliable neighborhood Italian with a wine list to match — nothing you haven't seen before, but nothing to embarrass yourself with either. Stick to the Chianti Classico, enjoy the pizza, and don't come here expecting to be wowed by what's in the glass.
