Wingman Metrics
Five wines. That's the whole list. At a counter-service taco spot in Downtown Denton, this is either deeply charming or deeply lazy β and honestly, at these prices, it leans charming. When your most expensive bottle is $28, it's hard to stay mad.
The list hits the usual suspects: a Pinot Grigio, a Chardonnay, a Cab, a Malbec, and a Rioja. No producers listed, no vintages, no regions called out β you're largely flying blind on what you're actually getting. That said, the geographic instincts are right: Malbec and Rioja fit the Latin street food concept better than a random Napa Cab, and there's a loose logic to the lineup even if no one mapped it out deliberately. The gaps are obvious β no rosΓ©, no bubbles, nothing from South America beyond the Malbec β but for a spot where the average plate runs $10, expecting a curated cellar is the wrong energy.
By-the-glass details aren't listed anywhere on the menu or online, which at a counter-service spot likely means bottles only β or a very informal pour situation. If you're dining solo or just want a glass with your bowl, ask at the counter; this isn't the kind of place with a formal pour program.
Cabernet Sauvignon β $19
Nineteen dollars for a bottle of Cab at a sit-down-ish restaurant is genuinely hard to beat. You're not getting a cellar star, but you're getting a solid pour with your food without wincing at the bill.
Rioja
At $28 it's the priciest bottle on the list, but Rioja is the most food-friendly wine here by a mile β earthy, a little smoky, built for savory food. Most people at a counter-service taco spot are going to default to the Malbec or Cab. Don't. The Rioja is the move.
Chardonnay
At $21 with zero producer information, an anonymous Chardonnay is the lowest-upside play on this list. There's nothing to indicate this is anything other than a generic grocery-aisle pour, and the food at Boca 31 isn't really asking for it anyway.
Malbec + Sweet Potato Tacos
Malbec's dark fruit and gentle earthiness play surprisingly well against the caramelized sweetness of roasted sweet potato. It's an unexpected match β usually you'd reach for red with meat β but the savory-sweet contrast here genuinely works.
π² The Bottom Line
Boca 31 isn't a wine destination, and it knows it β but $19 bottles and zero attitude make it the kind of Wild Card worth knowing about. Grab a Rioja, order the tacos, and don't overthink it.

Hoochies is an oyster bar first and a wine destination never, but the list is functional enough that you won't feel stranded. Order the catfish, grab a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, and save the wine deep-dive for another night.

Cheddar's wine program exists to check a box, not to serve you well. Order a cocktail or a beer β they've actually put thought into those β and save the wine for a restaurant that cares.

BJ's Denton is a beer hall that happens to stock wine, and the list makes that priority crystal clear. If you must drink wine here, come on a Tuesday β Half Off Wine Tuesday is the one thing this program does that actually earns a tip of the glass.

Saltgrass Denton is a solid place to eat a steak; it is not a place to drink wine. Order a Shiner, grab the J. Lohr if you need something in a glass, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that shares it.

Texas Roadhouse Denton is not a wine destination β it's a rolls-and-steak destination, and that's completely fine. Order the cocktail, drink the beer, and save your wine enthusiasm for somewhere that returns the favor.

This wine program exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal β if you're at Chili's Denton for the wine, something has gone wrong. Stick to the margaritas, which is almost certainly what the restaurant intended all along.
