Nobody walks into J.K. O'Donnell's looking for a Burgundy deep-dive, and the wine list knows that about itself. It's a tight 12-bottle card that keeps things simple and — surprisingly — keeps prices low enough that you don't feel punished for ordering a glass with your shepherd's pie. It's not ambitious, but it's not embarrassing either.
The list covers the obvious bases: a Riesling, a Pinot Grigio, a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Moscato, and a sweet red blend on the white and approachable side; Pinot Noir, Malbec, Merlot, and a Cab on the red side, plus a Prosecco and a Port to round things out. Producers like Santa Ema, Grayson Cellars, and Bodini are workmanlike but honest — these aren't grocery store generics at liquor store prices. There's no old-world depth here, no regional exploration, nothing that'll make a wine-curious diner lean forward. But for a place where the real draw is draft beer and whiskey, a clean, inoffensive 12-label list is more than fair.
Everything on the list is available by the glass, which is a genuine win — no locked-up bottles, no upselling required. Glass pours run $6.50 to $9.50, which is aggressively affordable for 2024 anywhere, let alone a sit-down pub. The Moletto Prosecco at $9.50 a glass is the top of the range and still a fine call.
Bodini Malbec — $24/bottle
A drinkable, fruit-forward Malbec at a bottle price that barely clears the cost of two cocktails. If you're splitting a bottle at a pub, this is the easy yes.
Noval Black Porto
Most people at a pub aren't thinking about Port, but Noval Black is a legitimate producer making approachable, fruit-driven Porto — and at $7 a glass it's a killer way to finish a meal when everyone else is ordering another Guinness.
Chateau Diana Jawbreaker Cabernet
At $28 a bottle it's the priciest thing on the list, and Chateau Diana is a value-tier California label that doesn't justify topping the card. The Bodini Malbec at $24 is a better spend by a mile.
Hirschbach & Söhne Riesling + Fish and Chips
A crisp, off-dry Riesling cuts through the fried batter and holds up to the malt vinegar without flinching. It's the move when the table is splitting a basket.
The Bottom Line
J.K. O'Donnell's is a beer bar first and a wine list second, but the pricing is so reasonable and the selection so inoffensive that ordering a bottle doesn't feel like a mistake. Come for the pint, stay for the surprisingly affordable Malbec.
