Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Cotto opens with a clear sense of purpose: this is an Italian restaurant that actually leans into Italian wine, not just the safe Napa imports that suburban spots tend to default to. Fifty-one labels is not an overwhelming cellar, but the curation shows someone was paying attention. The price ceiling of $150 keeps things grounded, and the floor starts at a very approachable $36 a bottle.
The list skews heavily white and Italian, which makes sense for the concept — you'll find Gavi, Vermentino, Trebbiano di Soave, and Trebbiano Spoletino alongside the expected Pinot Grigio parade. The Bocale Trebbiano Spoletino is a genuine find, the kind of central Italian white that rarely shows up outside of specialty wine bars. Vermentino appears twice — the Sella and Mosca at $36 and the Cantina Mesa at $51 — giving drinkers a real chance to explore the grape at different price points. The California section (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc) feels like an obligatory nod to the crowd rather than a passion project, but it doesn't overwhelm the Italian backbone.
Thirty-eight by-the-glass options out of 51 total labels is a remarkably high conversion rate — nearly the entire list is available by the glass, which is genuinely guest-friendly. Glass prices run $10 to $18, and the range covers sparkling, rosé, white, and presumably extends into reds not captured in our current data. That kind of open access to the full list makes this a great spot for table exploration without committing to full bottles.
The Bottom Line
Cotto is doing more with a 51-bottle list than most Italian restaurants do with twice as many labels — the Italian whites alone make this worth a visit for anyone tired of the same old Pinot Grigio rut. The markup is fair, the by-the-glass program is genuinely generous, and the presence of bottles like the Bocale Trebbiano Spoletino signals real intent. We'd send a friend here and tell them to skip the Santa Margherita and work their way through the Vermentinos instead.

Crispina's wine list is doing more than it needs to for a Vinings pizza-and-pasta spot — the Italian white selection alone puts it ahead of most neighbors, and 23 by-the-glass options means you're never stuck ordering a bottle you don't want. Markup is fair across the board, and the $9–$13 glass range makes it easy to drink well without overthinking it. Send a friend here; just steer them toward the Falanghina.

101 Steak delivers a reliable, if predictable, wine experience built almost entirely around California Cabernet with a few worthwhile outliers hiding in plain sight. The by-the-glass program is genuinely strong in volume, but markups across the list lean toward what the room will bear rather than what's fair. If you're in Vinings and want a good bottle of red with your steak, you'll find one — just spend a minute with the mid-tier options instead of defaulting to the Caymus.

The Old Vinings Inn offers a competent, crowd-friendly wine program that will keep most guests happy without surprising anyone. Pricing runs steep relative to retail — particularly in the mid-tier bottles — but the sparkling section shows genuine care, and the sheer number of by-the-glass options is a genuine convenience. If you're after California comfort and easy sipping in a suburban setting, this list delivers; if you're chasing discovery, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Tavola Trattoria's wine program is five bottles deep and priced without apology — $101 for a Saracco Moscato is the kind of markup that makes you consider ordering water and going wine shopping after dinner. The list has no still wines at all, which is a strange call for an Italian restaurant. Order a cocktail or ask if they have a corkage policy, because this wine list isn't doing you any favors.

La Tavola is an Italian restaurant with a five-bottle wine list that stops at sparkling and rosé — no reds, no whites, no depth whatsoever. The pricing on what's there is difficult to justify. Unless you came specifically for Lambrusco or Franciacorta, you're better off calling ahead to ask about corkage.

Wauwatosa · Wauwatosa · Italian
Bartolotta is doing something genuinely unusual for the Midwest — a focused, Italy-only wine list that favors regional specificity over safe crowd-pleasers. The pricing is fair relative to what's on offer, and standouts like the Vie Di Romans Ciampagnis and Ca del Bosco Franciacorta punch well above the restaurant's zip code. If Italian wine is your thing and you're anywhere near Wauwatosa, this list is worth a dedicated evening.
