Wingman Metrics
Four hundred to five hundred labels. Forty wines by the glass. This is the wine list you hope for when you sit down for tapas, but almost never get. Barcelona Wine Bar treats its wine program like the main event, not an afterthought with a Rioja and a prayer.
The Spain focus is comprehensive without being limiting — you'll find everything from Basque txakoli to Priorat monsters, with serious depth in Ribera del Duero and Rías Baixas. But they don't stop at the Pyrenees: South American selections bring in Argentine Malbec and Chilean Carmenère that actually make sense next to chorizo and patatas bravas. The list shows curation, not just catalog ordering. Sommelier-driven means you get producers like Naveran in Cava (their Perles d'Or is here) instead of the usual grocery store bubbles.
Forty pours by the glass is legitimately impressive, especially when they're rotating thoughtfully and not just emptying old bottles. The BarCava Brut shows up here — a house Cava that's leagues better than Prosecco at this price point. Expect a mix of safe crowd-pleasers and staff picks that nudge you toward something new.
Viña Mein Ribeiro Blanco — $38
Galician white that drinks like Albariño's smarter sibling — minerality for days, perfect with whipped ricotta
Naveran Perles d'Or Brut Nature Reserva
Most people reflexively order Prosecco; this Cava has more character and zero dosage — bone dry, brioche notes, actual complexity
Mass-market Rioja Reserva
With this much depth in Spanish reds, don't settle for the corporate stuff — ask for a staff pick from Ribera or Toro instead
Albariño (Sunday half-price selection) + Jamón and Manchego Croquetas
High-acid Galician white cuts through the richness of fried béchamel and cured pork, while the salinity in both creates a perfect loop
Sunday — Half price bottles of Albariño and more
The Bottom Line
This is what happens when a restaurant actually cares about wine: a list that rewards curiosity, staff who know their stuff, and Sunday half-price bottles that turn dinner into a no-brainer. Send your friends here.

Chima is clearly a steakhouse that sells meat and uses wine as an afterthought. Order the beef, have a caipirinha, and save your wine enthusiasm for somewhere that returns the favor.

Caroline's isn't trying to be a wine destination — it's an oyster bar with California ambitions and prices that don't punish you for ordering well. Wednesday half-price wine night alone is worth putting in your rotation.

Plaza Midwood · Charlotte · Southern American, Steakhouse
Supperland is a genuinely wild place to drink wine — stained glass overhead, a cast iron skillet on the table, and a bottle of Tignanello on the list. The markups aren't generous and no sommelier is guiding you, but if you know what you're looking for, this Wine Spectator-recognized list delivers for a Southern steakhouse in a church.

Belmont · Charlottesville · Spanish Tapas
Mas Tapas is the kind of place that earns a Wild Card badge because nobody walks in expecting a 2008 Priorat and a serious Galician white selection in a Belmont neighborhood spot. The markups keep it from being a destination for bottle hunters, but the by-the-glass depth and Spain-first focus make it one of the more interesting wine experiences in Charlottesville.
