Wingman Metrics
The list at Avert reads exactly like you'd expect from a French brasserie that knows its audience — Champagne, Bordeaux, Loire, Burgundy, and not much else. It's polished without being ambitious, and the ~65-label count feels comfortable rather than exciting. You're not going to be surprised, but you're probably not going to be disappointed either.
France does the heavy lifting here, and honestly, that tracks for the concept. Bordeaux and Champagne get the most real estate, with some Loire and Burgundy representation filling in the gaps. The Joseph Drouhin Pouilly-Fuissé and Clos de Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape signal genuine intent at the top end — these aren't filler bottles. That said, there's limited new-world reach beyond a token Russian River Pinot Noir, and adventurous drinkers looking for natural wine or anything off the beaten path will be left flat.
Twenty by-the-glass options is a genuinely solid number for a neighborhood brasserie, and the $12–$19 range keeps things accessible without feeling cheap. We don't have full rotation details, but the breadth suggests you can navigate through a whole meal by the glass without hitting the same flavor profile twice — which is exactly what you want.
Sancerre, La Légende de St. Martin, Loire — $76
Sancerre at $76 isn't a screaming deal, but for a French brasserie serving moules marinières and steak frites, it's the wine that earns its keep most honestly. Clean, mineral, and the right call for half the menu.
Pinot Noir, Böen, Russian River Valley
It sticks out like a sore thumb on an otherwise all-French list, which is exactly why it's worth a look. Böen is a reliably well-made Russian River Pinot, and at $64 it's one of the few places on this list where you're not paying a premium for the French flag on the label.
Pouilly-Fuissé, Joseph Drouhin 2022
Drouhin makes a perfectly fine Pouilly-Fuissé, but $130 for an entry-level Burgundy producer's négociant bottling is a lot to ask. There are better ways to spend that money at this same table.
Sancerre, La Légende de St. Martin, Loire + Moules Marinières
Loire Sauvignon Blanc and a bowl of steamed mussels in white wine broth is one of the great no-brainer pairings in French cuisine — the wine's citrus and mineral edge cuts right through the briny, buttery broth.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Avert is a reliable wine stop if you're already going for the duck confit and don't want to overthink it — the French-focused list is competent and the by-the-glass count is genuinely impressive for West Hartford. Just watch the top end of the bottle list, where markups quietly get away from you.
West Hartford Center · Hartford · Upscale American Seafood and Raw Bar
Max's Oyster Bar is exactly the kind of reliable wine program a seafood-focused restaurant should have — thoughtfully built around what's on the plate, staffed by people who can guide you through it. The markup keeps it from being exceptional, but if you stick to the Old World whites, you'll drink very well.

West Hartford · Hartford · American Tavern
Tavern in the Square West Hartford is a perfectly decent place to watch a game and eat a burger, but the wine list is purely functional — familiar brands, steep markups, and zero curation. Stick to draft beer or a cocktail unless a glass of Prosecco is all you need.

Georges is doing something genuinely impressive for its market — a focused, honest French wine list in a city where that's not a given. It's not a deep cellar and the BTG program could use more energy, but as a neighborhood bistro wine experience, it punches well above its zip code.
