Wingman Metrics
Walking into Angele, you're greeted by the kind of wine list that matches the room — polished, comfortable, and unapologetically Napa. It leans hard into the valley's greatest hits, which isn't a criticism so much as a statement of intent. This is a place that knows its crowd and plays to it without embarrassing itself.
The list runs 80 to 120 bottles deep and sticks close to home — Napa Valley Cabernets and Chardonnays anchor it, with a French Champagne section that nods to the bistro DNA. You'll find Duckhorn, Joseph Phelps, Chappellet, and Far Niente doing their usual reliable work, which means zero surprises but also zero disappointments. There's a real gap if you're hunting for Burgundy, Rhône, or anything outside the California-Champagne axis — the French influence stops at the décor and the sparkling wine shelf. Adventurous drinkers may feel boxed in, but anyone who came to Napa to drink Napa will feel right at home.
The by-the-glass program runs 10 to 15 options across red, white, rosé, and sparkling, priced $14 to $22 — reasonable for Downtown Napa where the zip code alone adds $5 to everything. Domaine Carneros Brut by the glass is the move if you want to start well without committing to a bottle. The rotation doesn't appear to change much, so don't expect any seasonal curveballs.
Domaine Carneros Brut — $22/glass
Proper Carneros sparkling wine at a price that doesn't sting — crisp, food-friendly, and a natural fit for mussels or steak frites. In a room full of Napa reds, this one's the quiet overachiever.
Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon
Chappellet gets overshadowed by the Duckhorns and Phelpses of the world, but this Pritchard Hill producer consistently punches above its price point. Most tables will reach for the famous labels; the table that orders Chappellet drinks better.
Rombauer Chardonnay Carneros
At $75 on the list versus $45 at retail, the markup isn't egregious — but Rombauer is the Chardonnay equivalent of ordering a Caesar salad. Safe, recognizable, and everywhere. You're in Napa. You can do more interesting than this.
Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon Napa + Steak Frites
A Napa Cab with steak frites is almost too obvious — but Duckhorn's structured tannins and dark fruit cut through the butter and hold up to the char in a way that just works. Sometimes the obvious call is the right call.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Angele is a genuinely good neighborhood anchor in one of the world's most wine-saturated zip codes — fair pricing, familiar producers, and a waterfront setting that earns its keep. It won't challenge you, but it won't disappoint you either, and that's not nothing.

TRUSS is a competent, well-staffed wine program that plays to its audience and its address — if you're here for deep cuts or value hunting, lower your expectations and enjoy the views. But if you want a reliable, properly stored Napa-focused list with real sommelier guidance and a solid glass pour selection, this is exactly what it's supposed to be.

Ristorante Allegria is a solid, honest wine destination for a downtown Napa dinner — not a list that'll make you gasp, but one that respects the room and the food. Watch the markups on the commodity bottles and lean toward the producers that actually earned their spots on the list.

Ad Hoc's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a Thomas Keller casual concept: well-curated, California-centric, and priced for people who didn't blink at the reservation. It won't blow your mind, but it'll hold its own against the fried chicken.

The CIA at Copia is the rare Napa restaurant where the wine list isn't trying to take your wallet hostage. If you're in downtown Napa and want serious producers at prices that don't require a second mortgage, this is the move.

Lucy is a well-run hotel wine program that takes itself seriously — proper glassware, a sommelier who shows up, and a California list with genuine depth. The markups are Napa-level steep, but you're in Yountville; nobody's coming here expecting Brooklyn prices.

Bistro Jeanty isn't your typical Napa wine list — and that's exactly the point. The fortified and dessert program alone is worth the visit, with markups that are shockingly fair for this zip code. Come for the duck confit, stay for the Madeira.

Avert is a reliable wine stop if you're already going for the duck confit and don't want to overthink it — the French-focused list is competent and the by-the-glass count is genuinely impressive for West Hartford. Just watch the top end of the bottle list, where markups quietly get away from you.
