Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Fleming's West Hartford announces itself loudly and proudly: this is Napa country. You open it expecting optionality and you get it — over 100 bottles and a by-the-glass program that's genuinely impressive in scope. The room matches the list: polished, confident, and clearly optimized for people celebrating something.
Fleming's leans hard into California, and the hits are all here — Jordan Cab, Caymus, Duckhorn Merlot, Stag's Leap Artemis, Far Niente Chard. It's a greatest-hits tour of Napa and Sonoma, with Pacific Northwest and France filling supporting roles. If you came hoping for Jura, Ribeira Sacra, or even a rogue Barolo, this list will disappoint you. But if you want a known quantity at a steakhouse in West Hartford, Fleming's delivers exactly what it promises — no surprises, no adventure, no apologies.
One hundred by-the-glass options is the entire Fleming's brand identity and it's genuinely one of the better BTG programs you'll find at a corporate steakhouse. The range covers everything from entry-level Chardonnay to the kind of Cabernets you'd normally only see by the bottle. Rotation is unclear — this feels more like a fixed lineup than a dynamic program — but the sheer volume means you're not stuck ordering the house Cab all night.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $22
Jordan by the glass at a steakhouse is a genuine win — it's a bottle that retails around $45 and drinks way above its weight in this setting. Classic Alexander Valley structure, approachable tannins, and it makes every bite of ribeye taste like a better decision.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon
Most people at Fleming's are reaching for Caymus out of habit. Skip the reflex. The Artemis is a more structured, more interesting wine from one of Napa's genuinely historic estates — the kind of bottle that actually rewards attention at the table.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is a status order, not a value order. You're paying a significant premium for a label everyone recognizes, and the markup at an upscale steakhouse on an already-expensive bottle makes it a rough deal. It's a fine wine — it's just not worth what Fleming's charges for it when the Artemis is sitting right there.
Duckhorn Merlot + Lamb Chops
Duckhorn Merlot has the plum and cedar character to complement lamb without the tannin freight train of a big Cab. The lamb chops need something with fruit and structure but not aggression — this is the call.
The Bottom Line
Fleming's West Hartford is a reliable, polished steakhouse wine program that does exactly what it sets out to do — pour well-known California wines in a nice glass to people who are already spending $60 on a steak. Just don't expect to discover anything, and watch the markup on the big names.
West Hartford Center · Hartford · Upscale American Seafood and Raw Bar
Max's Oyster Bar is exactly the kind of reliable wine program a seafood-focused restaurant should have — thoughtfully built around what's on the plate, staffed by people who can guide you through it. The markup keeps it from being exceptional, but if you stick to the Old World whites, you'll drink very well.

West Hartford · Hartford · American Tavern
Tavern in the Square West Hartford is a perfectly decent place to watch a game and eat a burger, but the wine list is purely functional — familiar brands, steep markups, and zero curation. Stick to draft beer or a cocktail unless a glass of Prosecco is all you need.

Downtown Hartford · Hartford · New American / Seafood
Max's Trumbull Kitchen is a reliable wine stop elevated by a genuinely smart focus on seafood-friendly whites — just don't pay full price when you can come back on Thursday and get the whole list at half off. That changes the math considerably.

West Hartford Center · Hartford · American / Burgers / Gastropub
Max Burger isn't a wine destination — it's a burger destination that happens to take wine seriously enough to price it fairly and run half-off Thursdays. If you're eating here anyway, you're in better shape than you think.

Blue Back Square / West Hartford · Hartford · Spanish Tapas
Boqueria West Hartford won't surprise wine geeks, but it delivers a coherent, fairly priced Spanish list that genuinely serves the food. If you're eating tapas and drinking well, this is a solid neighborhood call.

Downtown Hartford · Hartford · Steakhouse
The Capital Grille Hartford is exactly what it promises to be: a polished, Napa-forward steakhouse list with real depth, proper service, and markups that will make you wince if you check your phone at the table. Come for the steak and the Silver Oak, just don't look up the retail price until you're home.

River Road · Gatlinburg · Steakhouse, American
The Peddler is a legitimately great steakhouse experience in a gorgeous setting, and the wine list is competent enough to get the job done — but it's a supporting cast, not a destination. Order the Jordan, get the steak, enjoy the river view, and don't expect the list to surprise you.

East Parkway · Gatlinburg · Steakhouse, American
Alamo Steakhouse is genuinely great at what it does — the oak-fired meats are the draw and they deliver. But the wine list is purely functional, overpriced for what it is, and built for tourists who aren't going to push back on a Kendall-Jackson upcharge. Come for the steak, order a bourbon, and save the wine enthusiasm for somewhere else.

Lionshead · Vail · Steakhouse, American
Vail Chophouse is a dependable après-ski and dinner destination that plays its wine program straight down the middle — familiar names, steep but expected mountain-town pricing, and a list that won't let you down if you stick to the California Cabs. We'd send a friend here for the steak and the view, with a note to skip the Josh and go straight to Jordan.
