Wingman Metrics
Walk into Wine Dive + Kitchen and you immediately wonder how a downtown Manhattan, Kansas spot earned a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence — then you look at the list and stop wondering. Exposed brick, dim lighting, and a room that feels more like a serious wine bar than a Kansas college town date spot. This place knows exactly what it is, and it's doing it well.
The program leans hard into Wine Spectator's noted strengths — France, California, Italy, and Champagne — which is a sensible lane for a mid-market city wine bar trying to keep things approachable without dumbing them down. California is the clear anchor, with recognizable names like Caymus, Cakebread, Daou, and Decoy giving regulars their comfort zone. The Champagne presence, anchored by Veuve Clicquot at $95, signals genuine ambition rather than just a token bubbly slot. Sommelier Brad Steven holding down the floor means there's actual expertise steering this list, not just a distributor rep's favorites loaded onto a menu.
The by-the-glass program has real breadth — Prosecco, Champagne, California Cab, Pinot Noir, and Paso Robles Cab all available by the pour, which is more than most places at this level bother to offer. Pours start at $9 for the La Marca Prosecco and climb to $18 for The Prisoner Red Blend, giving you real options across price points. The Tuesday half-price wine night makes this program genuinely exceptional for value — a $9 glass of Veuve or Prisoner for $9 is a flat-out steal.
Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne — $95 bottle / ~$47.50 on Tuesdays
Veuve at $95 is already fair restaurant pricing for Champagne, but on Tuesday half-price night that bottle drops to under $50 — which is close to retail and better than most liquor stores will do. Drink real Champagne on a Tuesday in Kansas. Do it.
Daou Cabernet Sauvignon
Paso Robles Cab at $60 a bottle tends to get overlooked next to the Caymus and Cakebread names on a list like this, but Daou punches well above its price tier and has the structure to hold up against the Duck Breast. Most people will scroll past it. Don't.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
At $140 a bottle, Caymus is doing exactly what Caymus always does — coasting on its reputation while the margins stack up. It's a fine wine, but you're paying restaurant markup on top of brand premium on top of an already inflated California Cab market. The Daou and Cakebread are better plays at this table.
Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon + Duck Breast
The Decoy Cab's softer tannins and dark fruit profile complement the grilled duck without steamrolling the pickled mustard seed and oyster mushroom sauce. It's a $52 bottle that doesn't try to be a hero — it just lets the duck do the talking.
Tuesday — Half-price wine on Tuesdays — applies to the wine list and makes an already fair-priced program into one of the best deals in Kansas.
The Bottom Line
Wine Dive + Kitchen is the kind of place that genuinely earns its Wine Spectator credential in a city where you might not expect it — a knowledgeable sommelier, fair pricing, and a Tuesday half-price program that's worth rearranging your week for. Send your friends here, especially on Tuesdays.

The Wild Sage is your dependable neighborhood spot in Eagle Ranch — the wine list won't blow your mind, but it won't embarrass you at dinner either. Watch the markups on the top-shelf Napa bottles and stick to the mid-range, and you'll be fine.

Warehouse Kitchen + Cork won't win any awards for depth or ambition, but it plays its hand honestly — fair prices, solid local representation, and a full by-the-glass program that respects your wallet. If you're in Traverse City and want a glass of something local with a water view, this works.

Sunnyside is a casual lodge restaurant wearing a serious wine list under its flannel — the markup is steep and it won't win any awards for staff expertise, but the producer lineup is legitimately impressive for where you're sitting. If you're already at the lake, this is absolutely worth ordering a real bottle.
