A cocktail lounge in Lafayette, Louisiana with 36 wines by the glass and a flat $9.95 price on everything — that's either a gimmick or a genuinely good deal, and it turns out to be mostly the latter. The list opens with aperitifs and fortified wines before rolling through sparkling, whites, and reds, which is not the order you'd expect from a place with 'Whiskey' in the name. That alone earns a second look.
Fifty-six labels is a real list, and Whiskey & Vine uses the space with more curiosity than most cocktail lounges bother to muster. You've got Trimbach Reserve Pinot Gris from Alsace sitting next to a Maison Lispaul Sancerre, a Bodegas Baron Fino Sherry, and a Flying Solo Grenache Blanc from Languedoc — these are not Applebee's picks. The aperitif section, which includes Lillet Blanc, Lillet Rosé, and Dolin Blanc, signals that someone behind this list actually drinks wine before dinner. The weak spots are real — Schmitt Söhne Piesporter and Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio are grocery store staples that feel like filler — but they don't sink an otherwise respectable effort. The inclusion of Landry Vineyards Sweet Dixie Muscadine Wine is a nod to local Louisiana producers that's easy to root for.
Thirty-six by-the-glass options at a uniform $9.95 is the whole game here, and it works. The range is genuinely impressive — you can go from a Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut split to a Honoro Vero Monastrell to a Saracco Moscato d'Asti without leaving your barstool or cracking $10. No tiered pricing means no decision fatigue, which is either lazy pricing or brilliant hospitality depending on your mood.
Maison Lispaul Sancerre — $9.95/glass
Sancerre at $9.95 a glass is a genuinely good deal anywhere. In Lafayette, it's almost absurd. Crisp Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc with real pedigree — this is the pour that justifies the whole flat-rate experiment.
Bodegas Baron Fino Sherry
Most people walk right past Fino Sherry on a wine list and order something safer. Don't. Bone-dry, saline, and nutty, it's the most food-friendly thing on the list and the kind of pick that makes you feel like you know something your tablemates don't.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Valdadige
A reliable crowd-pleaser, sure, but Santa Margherita is the brand that turned Pinot Grigio into a safe, forgettable default. At $9.95 the price is fine, but with Ca'Del Sarto Friuli Pinot Grigio and Flying Solo Grenache Blanc sitting right next to it, there's just no reason to default to the brand everyone's grandmother already knows.
Flying Solo Grenache Blanc Languedoc + Charcuterie Board
Without confirmed menu dishes we're working with what's reasonable for a cocktail lounge — and a Grenache Blanc from Languedoc, with its round texture and subtle stone fruit, is exactly what you want alongside cured meats and soft cheeses. It's versatile enough to handle salty and fatty without getting lost.

Whiskey & Vine is the kind of place that shouldn't have a wine list this interesting but does — and at $9.95 flat, there's almost no risk in experimenting. If you're in Lafayette and want to drink something more thoughtful than the usual cocktail lounge fare, this is your move.

Order the cocktails, grab a $5 pour at happy hour, and save your wine ambitions for somewhere that respects them.
