Wingman Metrics
Walking into Bon Temps Grill, the wine list isn't exactly what grabs your attention — the live music and smell of andouille do that first. But flip past the cocktail section and you'll find a California-heavy red list that's honest about what it is: crowd-pleasing bottles that won't offend anyone and won't bankrupt you. It's a wine list built for a roadhouse, and it knows it.
The list leans hard into California — Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot dominate, with familiar names like La Crema, Frank Family, and McManis anchoring the range. There's a token nod to the Old World with the Reserve de Bonpas Côtes du Rhône and the Monte Zovo Valpolicella Ripasso, which genuinely stand out against the wall of West Coast juice. Red blends round things out — Conundrum by Caymus and the Three Finger Jack Rum Barrel Red are clearly targeting the crowd that wants something fun and approachable. Whites and rosés are conspicuously absent from what's listed, which is a real miss for a spot serving shrimp and gumbo in Louisiana heat.
Happy hour drops select pours to $5 a glass, which is practically an act of charity depending on what's being poured. We don't have a confirmed full by-the-glass count, but the bottle list suggests pours run from the entry-level Sycamore Lane tier up through La Crema. Tuesday's half-price bottle deal is where the real action is — that's the night to show up.
Monte Zovo Valpolicella Ripasso — Unknown — buy it on Tuesday
It's the most interesting bottle on the list by a mile. A Ripasso brings dried cherry, espresso, and enough structure to stand up to andouille and cream sauces without getting lost. At half price on Tuesday, it's a genuine steal in a list full of California defaults.
Reserve de Bonpas Côtes du Rhône
Most people at a Cajun roadhouse are reaching for the Cabernet or the Pinot — they're sleeping on this Rhône blend. Grenache-forward, earthy, and spiced in a way that actually mirrors the flavors in the kitchen. It's the sleeper pick on an otherwise predictable list.
Sycamore Lane Cabernet Sauvignon
This is grocery store wine at restaurant prices. It's the kind of bottle you grab when you're in a hurry and there's nothing else — there's no reason to order it here when the Monte Zovo and the Côtes du Rhône exist on the same list.
Conundrum by Caymus Red Blend + Bon Temps Pasta
The Bon Temps Pasta — chicken, andouille, cream sauce — needs something with enough fruit and body to cut through the richness without overwhelming the spice. Conundrum's soft tannins and dark fruit land exactly right here, and the Caymus pedigree means it's got the weight to match the dish without turning into a tannin battle.
Tuesday — All bottles of wine are half price every Tuesday.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Bon Temps Grill isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — it's a lively neighborhood spot with a fair, unpretentious list and a Tuesday bottle deal that's genuinely worth planning around. Show up, order the Ripasso, and let the live music handle the rest.

Mazen Grill is the kind of place you can trust to have a drinkable bottle for a special occasion without having to coach your dining companions through anything unfamiliar. The markups sting a little and the list plays it safe, but the range is real and the execution is solid enough to keep us coming back.

Half Shell Lafayette isn't where you go to geek out on wine — it's where you go to eat great oysters with something cold and decent in your glass. For that, the list does exactly what it needs to do, and the pricing is fair enough that we're not holding a grudge.

Whiskey & Vine is a genuinely great place to spend an evening — the vibe, the jazz, and the cocktails are all doing their jobs. But the wine list is riding those coattails hard, charging gouge-level markups on unremarkable bottles while a sommelier watches from the sideline. Order the cocktails, grab a $5 pour at happy hour, and save your wine ambitions for somewhere that respects them.

Bonefish Grill Lafayette isn't a wine destination, but it's not an embarrassment either — it's a reliable corporate list that plays defense, not offense. Order the Riesling, enjoy your fish, and don't overthink it.

Romacelli is a perfectly enjoyable neighborhood wine bar that punches above its weight on Wednesday nights and below it the rest of the week. Come for the food and the atmosphere — just make sure you're there on a Wednesday if wine is the point.

Social Southern is a Wild Card in the best way — a lively Southern table that slips in legitimate wine options between the craft cocktails and pork debris fries. The half-price bottle program during Social Hour is the real closer: if you're here Tuesday through Friday before 6:30, you're drinking well for very little.
