Wingman Metrics
Twenty-one labels isn't a lot to work with, but West Side Bistro earns points for keeping things focused rather than padding the list with filler. The California lean is intentional and consistent — this isn't a place trying to be everything to everyone. For a wine café in Carson City, the ambition is real even if the execution has some rough edges.
The list skews heavily Californian, which plays to the bistro's strengths — you get recognizable names like Silver Oak, Ramey, Sonoma Cutrer, and Melville anchoring the reds and whites. There's a nod to Italy via Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio and a few New Zealand and Argentine options rounding out the edges. The gaps are noticeable: no Burgundy, no Rhône, no real adventure beyond the usual suspects. But if you want approachable, well-known California bottles without having to decode an obscure list, this delivers.
Twelve by-the-glass options out of a 21-bottle list is a generous ratio, which is exactly what a neighborhood wine café should be doing. The range covers Schramsberg Brut Rosé through to Melville Pinot Noir, so there's real breadth in style. Glass prices running $10.95 to $25.95 are on the higher end for this market, but at least you're getting legitimately good juice.
Matua Sauvignon Blanc — $36
Matua is a reliable, crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that punches well above its retail price point — and at $36 it's the most accessible bottle on the list. It's the move when you want something refreshing and honest without committing to a $70+ California red.
Melville Pinot Noir
Most people at this table are reaching for Silver Oak or Ramey, which means Melville gets overlooked. That's a mistake — Melville is a serious Santa Rita Hills producer making Pinot Noir that earns its stripes, and it's quietly the most interesting red on a list that otherwise plays it safe.
Silver Oak Cabernet
At $109 a bottle, Silver Oak is a name everyone knows — and that name recognition is exactly what the markup is banking on. You can find this bottle at retail for well under $70. It's a fine wine, but you're paying a premium for the label, not the experience.
Schramsberg Brut Rosé + Cheese and Charcuterie Board
Bubbles and a charcuterie spread are a no-brainer, but Schramsberg's Brut Rosé specifically brings enough acidity and red fruit brightness to cut through the fat in cured meats while flattering the salty, savory edges of aged cheese. It's the most fun you'll have at this table.
✔️ The Bottom Line
West Side Bistro is a solid neighborhood wine café doing the right things with a small, California-focused list — just know the markups will sting a little. Send your friends here for a relaxed glass and a charcuterie board, not a deep-dive wine night.
Casino Fandango · Carson City · American Grill / Casino Restaurant
The Governor's Grill wine program is strictly background noise — functional enough if you just need something in your glass while you watch the game, but not a reason to make any decisions about where you eat. Order a cocktail or a beer and put your dining energy toward the steak.

South Carson · Carson City · Pizza, Casual American
Mountain Mike's isn't trying to be a wine destination, and the list makes that abundantly clear. Grab a $5 Edna Valley if you need wine, then focus on the pizza — which is, frankly, the whole point.

South Carson · Carson City · Steakhouse
Casino Fandango Steakhouse delivers a wine list that's safe, California-centric, and marked up the way casino restaurants tend to be. It's not a destination for wine lovers, but if you're already here for the prime cuts, Jordan Cab and a good steak will sort you out just fine.

Downtown / Casino Row · Carson City · American Café
TJ's Café is a solid spot for Indonesian-American comfort food inside a small Nevada casino, and the wine list is priced so low it's almost impossible to complain. Almost. Send your friends here for the nasi goreng; tell them to order a beer.

Cellar 8 is doing something genuinely rare — bringing a thoughtful, curiously assembled wine program to a downtown that didn't have one, inside a space that feels like it belongs to the neighborhood. Send your friends here, especially if they think Nevada is a cocktail state.

Northeast Carson / Basque Way · Carson City · French-inspired American bistro
Z Bistro isn't trying to be a wine destination, but it's clearly trying — and in a market where most restaurants phone it in, that effort shows. If you're eating here anyway, you're in good hands with a bottle.
