Sunset Views, Safe Pours, No Surprises

The wine list at Watercolour Grillhouse reads exactly like you'd expect from a waterfront Marriott steakhouse — reliable California names, nothing that will surprise you, and pricing that reflects the Gulf views as much as what's in the bottle. It's a list built for the guest who already knows what they like and isn't looking to be challenged. That's not an insult, exactly, but it's not a compliment either.
The list leans heavily California with a nod toward France, covering the greatest hits: Alexander Valley Cabernet, Russian River Chardonnay, and a Pinot Noir that shows up on every hotel list between here and San Diego. There's real quality in the lineup — Jordan and Stag's Leap are legitimate producers, not just label recognition — but the depth stops there. You won't find any interesting outliers, no Pacific Northwest Syrah or Willamette Valley deep cut, and the French representation appears to be minimal at best. For a steakhouse with serious seafood on the menu, the white wine options feel particularly underserved.
Somewhere between 8 and 14 pours by the glass, which is about right for this format — enough to find something, not enough to get excited. Prices run $12–$18 a glass, which is the Marriott standard and feels like a slight squeeze when you're looking at Meiomi Pinot Noir at the upper end of that range. Rotation appears static; don't expect anything new next visit.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley — $65
Jordan is the rare hotel steakhouse pick that's actually worth ordering. It's a well-made, food-friendly Cab that doesn't need a big occasion to justify itself — and at the lower end of what a list like this charges for a name-brand California red, it's the most honest bottle on the menu.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay
Most people here will reach for whatever Chardonnay the server recommends first. Sonoma-Cutrer's Russian River Ranches bottling is the better call — more precise and less oakbombed than you might expect from a hotel list Chard, and it holds up well against the Gulf grouper.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Meiomi is a $14 retail bottle. You will not be paying $14 for it here. It's soft, sweet, and mass-produced — not a bad wine in a grocery store context, but on a list with Jordan and Stag's Leap, it sticks out as the value trap. Pass.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Chardonnay + Gulf Grouper
Stag's Leap Chardonnay brings enough texture and weight to stand up to a meaty Gulf grouper without bulldozing the fish. It's the move when you're eating local seafood and want something that feels intentional rather than accidental.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Watercolour Grillhouse is a perfectly decent place to drink wine if you're already staying at the hotel or chasing the sunset view — just don't expect the list to match the scenery. Order the Jordan, watch the Gulf, and make peace with it.
Westshore · Clearwater · Fine-dining steakhouse
The Capital Grille is a reliable machine — the wine program is competent, well-staffed, and properly executed, but the markups are steep and the list plays it extremely safe. Send a friend here for a business dinner, but tell them to order Jordan before anyone at the table reaches for the Opus One.

Clearwater vicinity · Clearwater · Upscale steakhouse with seafood and extensive wine program
Fleming's is a reliable machine — excellent execution, real wine depth by-the-glass, staff that knows the list, and no surprises in a bad way. Just don't expect discovery; expect comfort, and budget accordingly for markup.

Indian Rocks Beach · Clearwater · Seafood / American
Guppy's won't win any awards for adventurous curation, but the list is fairly priced, thoughtfully stocked for a seafood crowd, and broad enough that everyone at the table finds something. Send a friend here for the grouper and tell them to drink the Cloudy Bay.

Belleair Bluffs · Clearwater · American Steakhouse
E&E Stakeout Grill is a perfectly decent neighborhood steakhouse wine list that asks too much on most nights — but Wine Wednesday flips the math entirely and makes this one of the better value plays in the Clearwater area. Come on a Wednesday, order the Chianti Classico, and you'll have zero complaints.

Clearwater Beach · Clearwater · Mediterranean and Mexican-inspired wine bar and bistro
This is the best wine program you're likely to find within walking distance of Clearwater Beach, and that's not faint praise — it's a genuine destination for the wine-curious crowd that usually has to settle for whatever's on draft. Wednesday's half-price U.S. bottle deal seals it: show up, order spaghetti, drink better than you planned.

Carrabba's Clearwater is a solid, honest chain wine program — fair prices, recognizable producers, nothing offensive. Send a friend here if they want Italian comfort food and an easy bottle of Chianti; don't send them if they're hoping to find something worth talking about.
