Wingman Metrics
Walking into The Poppy & Parliament, the wine list feels like it was curated by someone who did their homework — France, Italy, California, New Zealand, even a nod to England. It's respectable for a British gastropub in downtown Huntsville, which is not exactly a wine destination. The trouble starts when you flip to the prices.
The list runs 40 to 70 bottles and leans into recognizable, crowd-friendly names — Decoy, The Prisoner, Santa Margherita, Daou — which tells you this list was built for guests who want something familiar rather than something interesting. The regional spread is genuinely decent: France and Italy anchor the Old World side while California carries most of the New World weight, with a Malbec from Mendoza thrown in for good measure. There's nothing here that will make a wine nerd's jaw drop, but there's also enough range that you won't feel stranded if you're ordering a steak versus the fish and chips. What's missing is any real depth or indie producers — this reads like a distributor's greatest hits, not a list someone built with conviction.
With 10 to 18 options by the glass, the program is at least trying to give people options beyond just red or white. The glass pours skew toward the same recognizable names that anchor the bottle list, which is fine for accessibility but not inspiring. Don't expect rotation or anything seasonal — what's on the menu today is likely what's been on it for a while.
Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Champagne NV — $110
At 83% over retail, this is the least punishing markup on the list — and it's actual Champagne. Order it to start, especially with the fish and chips, and you're not getting robbed as badly as everywhere else on this menu.
Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Malbec Mendoza 2019
Most people at a British steakhouse are reaching for a California Cab without thinking twice. This Malbec costs less and brings a darker, earthier fruit profile that honestly works better with the richness of the prime cuts. It's the move most tables miss.
Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Malbec Mendoza 2019
Wait — flip that. Skip the Terrazas if the markup is the issue: at 167% over retail, it's the worst value on the list. An $18 bottle hitting $48 on your check stings. Go with the Veuve instead and spend your money where the markup is actually reasonable.
Daou Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2021 + Prime Steak
Daou Cab is built for exactly this moment — it's structured enough to cut through the fat of a prime cut, with the dark fruit and oak that feel at home in a chophouse setting. It's not a steal at $68, but it's the most natural fit on this list for red meat.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Poppy & Parliament is a perfectly fine place to have a glass of wine with dinner — just go in knowing you're paying a premium for the atmosphere and the familiar labels. If you're wine-focused, order the Champagne, enjoy the fish and chips, and don't look too hard at the markup column.

Logan's wine program is the minimum viable product of wine programs — six mainstream labels doing the bare legal minimum to call themselves a full-service restaurant. Order the beer, order the steak, and save your wine questions for somewhere that's actually thought about it.

Bravo! Huntsville's wine list is a corporate placeholder that exists to move volume, not to make you drink better. If wine matters to your night out, save this address for the food and get your bottle elsewhere.

BJ's Huntsville is a perfectly fine place to eat and drink beer — and we mean that sincerely. But the wine list is corporate filler, and no one on staff is going to help you navigate it. Order the Pizookie, order a craft beer, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that earned it.

Ruth's Chris Huntsville is exactly what it promises: a deep, Napa-heavy list with professional service and steep but expected pricing. We'd send a friend here for a business dinner or a celebration, as long as they go in knowing the list rewards the conventional and charges accordingly.
