The Pine Club's wine list feels like the restaurant itself — old-school, confident, and not particularly interested in your opinion. It's a tight California-heavy lineup that knows exactly who it's serving: loyalists who want a big Napa Cab with their bone-in ribeye and aren't asking a lot of questions.
Twenty-seven labels, almost all of them California, with Napa Valley doing the heavy lifting. You've got the steakhouse greatest hits — Caymus, Rombauer, Far Niente, Duckhorn Decoy, The Prisoner — and while there's nothing wrong with any of those wines, there's also nothing here that'll surprise you. The Hess Collection shows up in multiple expressions including The Lion from Mount Veeder, which is at least a step above the usual Cab suspects. A token New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (Whitehaven) and a Provence rosé (Maison No. 9) wave at you from the corner, but this list wasn't built for variety — it was built for steak.
Twenty by-the-glass options is genuinely impressive for a 27-label list — nearly the whole thing pours by the glass, which we respect. The range runs $8 to $27 a glass, with Caymus Cabernet clocking in at the top of that scale. Rotation appears nonexistent; this list feels like it hasn't been touched since the Clinton administration, which is either charming or frustrating depending on your mood.
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand — $8/glass
At the low end of the price range, Whitehaven is a legitimately solid New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that overdelivers for what you're paying. It's a crowd-pleaser with real substance — and in a room full of $20+ pours, it's the rare value play on this list.
Hess Collection Cabernet Sauvignon The Lion, Mount Veeder
Most tables are ordering Caymus on autopilot, but The Lion from Mount Veeder is the more interesting bottle in the room. Mount Veeder sits high in the Mayacamas Mountains, and Hess has been farming it seriously for decades — the result is a structured, earthy Cab that actually has something to say beyond 'I'm expensive.'
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
At $27 a glass, you're paying steakhouse-premium for one of the most over-produced, over-ordered wines in America. Caymus is fine — it's just not $27-a-glass fine, and the markup here stings. Order The Lion or save the money entirely.
Far Niente's Bella Union Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley + Bone-in Ribeye
Bella Union is Far Niente's more approachable sibling — ripe, structured Napa Cab with enough tannin to cut through the fat of a bone-in ribeye without beating you over the head. It's the right weight for the right cut, and it doesn't require a second mortgage like its big brother Far Niente does.

The Pine Club is a Dayton institution that doesn't need to impress you with its wine list — and honestly, it doesn't try. If you want a classic Napa Cab with a great steak in a room where the vibe is still 1975, this is your place; just don't come looking for discovery.
