Walking into The Library on Long Point Road, you immediately clock the disconnect: this is a strip-mall-adjacent Houston neighborhood, and yet the wine list reads like someone raided a serious collector's cellar. The dim lighting and library-themed dΓ©cor earn their keep β this place actually has something to back up the atmosphere.
The list leans hard into France, Italy, California, and Spain β and not in a safe, crowd-pleasing way. We're talking RomanΓ©e-Conti, Lafite Rothschild, Harlan Estate, Screaming Eagle, and Vega Sicilia Unico all in the same room as your duck confit. The Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence (2025) is legitimately earned here β the depth across Burgundy and Bordeaux alone puts most Houston restaurants to shame. A Madeira section is the kind of touch that tells you whoever built this list actually cares.
Specific by-the-glass options weren't available for our review, which is frustrating because a list this deep deserves a glass program worth talking about. What we do know: Monday is half-price wine night, which is reason enough to show up mid-week and explore without committing to a full bottle.
Vega Sicilia Unico 2018 β $295
On a list full of four-figure bottles, $295 for Unico β one of Spain's most iconic and age-worthy reds β is as close to a bargain as this list gets. It's the move if you want something genuinely special without crossing into shock territory.
Sassicaia 2020
At $375, it's easy to walk past Sassicaia on a list that includes DRC and Harlan Estate. Don't. This is a benchmark Super Tuscan from a vintage that's drawing serious attention, and it'll drink beautifully right now without requiring the reverence β or the four-hour decant β of its neighbors.
Harlan Estate 2019
At $1,450, Harlan is the most expensive bottle on the list and, without retail data to benchmark against, it's impossible to know if that's fair. What we do know is that you can drink Vega Sicilia Unico, Sassicaia, and Opus One for the same money and have a genuinely varied, excellent night. Unless Harlan is your white whale, let it sit.
Sassicaia 2020 + Duck Confit
Sassicaia's Cabernet-forward structure and dark fruit cut right through the richness of duck confit without overpowering the crispy skin. It's a classic Tuscany-meets-bistro moment that feels right at home in this room.
Monday β Half-price wine night every Monday β the best reason to push past the Tuesday-Thursday crowd and make a reservation.
π² The Bottom Line
The Library is a genuine surprise β a cozy neighborhood wine bar in Spring Branch that holds its own against restaurants three times the price point and twice the pretension. The markups are real, but Monday's half-price night makes this one of Houston's better-kept wine secrets.
Montrose Β· Houston Β· French
The Marigold Club is Houston's most interesting new wine room for anyone who thinks Champagne is a food group and France is the only country that matters β in the best possible way. Go on a Sunday, order the Delamotte, eat the Duck Wellington, and tip generously.

Milton's is the kind of neighborhood trattoria that surprises you β the room says casual pasta night, the wine list quietly whispers Biondi-Santi. If you care about Italian wine and you're in Houston, it's worth a reservation just to explore the bottle list.

Marmo is hiding a legitimately serious Italian wine program behind a piano bar and a plate of hand-rolled pasta β and that's exactly what makes it worth seeking out. Send a friend here if they think Houston Italian restaurants don't take wine seriously; this list will change their mind.

Xochi is doing something genuinely rare: running a serious Mexican wine program inside a serious restaurant, with a sommelier who knows the material and a list that earns its Wine Spectator credential. Send your adventurous friends here and tell them to skip the Cab.

Taste of Texas is a Houston institution that takes its California Cabernet seriously β 30 years of Wine Spectator recognition backs that up. It's not a destination wine list, but if you're here for a steak and want a proper bottle to go with it, you won't leave disappointed.

BJ's is a fine place to drink a craft beer and eat a Pizookie. It is not a place to drink wine. Order a Brewhouse Blonde, skip the wine list entirely, and save your wine night for somewhere that cares.
