You're walking into a Danish-themed tourist town expecting schnapps and souvenir shops, and then this place exists. The Good Life feels like a local secret that the locals haven't fully managed to keep — a cellar-style bar with 60 wines by the glass and a genuine enthusiasm for Santa Barbara County producers most people have never heard of. It sets the right tone fast.
Sixty-nine labels sounds modest until you realize this is almost entirely a hyper-local Santa Ynez and Santa Barbara County showcase, and it's curated with real intention. You've got obscure white varieties like Boutz Cellars' Moschofilero and Vidiano — Greek grapes grown in California wine country, which is exactly the kind of weird flex we respect — alongside Perluca's Verdelho and a proper orange wine section featuring Crosby Wine's Pinot Gris and Perluca's Malvasia Bianca. The sparkling lineup punches above its weight too, with Haliotide Extra Brut Rosé and Cebada's Blanc de Noirs sitting alongside Le Vigne. Gaps exist — the list skews heavily white and local, so if you're hunting for aged Bordeaux or anything outside California, you're in the wrong cellar.
Sixty by-the-glass options is genuinely absurd in the best possible way — this is functionally a tasting room that also has beer. Prices run $10 to $48 per glass, with most of the interesting local stuff sitting in a very reasonable $12–$18 range. There's no obvious rotation program in place, but the sheer volume means you're not going to run out of things to try in a single sitting.
Le Pecheur Chenin Blanc — $14
Chenin Blanc from Santa Barbara County is undersold everywhere, and getting a well-made glass at this price point in a wine bar setting is exactly the kind of find that makes this place worth stopping for.
Boutz Cellars Moschofilero
A Greek white variety grown in California that almost nobody orders because they can't pronounce it — crisp, aromatic, and genuinely unlike anything else on the list. Ask for it by pointing if you have to.
GoGi Chardonnay
At the higher end of the glass price range, GoGi is well-known enough that you're paying a familiarity premium. With Seagrape and Mail Road Chardonnays on the same list at likely lower prices, there's a better story to tell in the glass.
Seagrape 'Hop T' Sauvignon Blanc + Charcuterie Board
A Sauvignon Blanc with enough herbal edge and acidity to cut through cured meats and aged cheese without disappearing into the background — and 'Hop T' has enough personality to hold the conversation.
🎲 The Bottom Line
The Good Life is what happens when someone in a tourist town actually cares about wine instead of just selling it. Come here, drink something you've never heard of, and feel good about it.
