You're in a town of 1,500 people on a two-lane highway, and somehow the wine list reads like it was curated by someone who spent serious time in both Burgundy and the Santa Ynez Valley. Bell's doesn't ease you in — it just hands you something thoughtful and expects you to keep up. That's a good thing.
The list earns its depth by playing two fields at once: classic French producers anchor the European side, while the California half is a who's-who of Santa Barbara County royalty — Brewer-Clifton, Sandhi, Qupé, Au Bon Climat. Lieu Dit's Melon de Bourgogne signals that someone here actually thinks about what they're doing, because nobody puts Muscadet-style wine on a list by accident. The Central Coast focus isn't regionalist chest-thumping; it genuinely fits the food. Gaps are hard to find at this level.
The by-the-glass program runs 12-20 options and reflects the same dual focus as the bottle list — expect rotating Central Coast pours alongside French classics that match the bistro format. It's not a by-the-glass afterthought; it looks like the same hand that built the bottle list touched this too.
Lieu Dit Melon de Bourgogne — null
A Loire-inspired white from Santa Barbara that most tables will walk right past. It's the perfect aperitif and a natural match for the moules frites — and it almost certainly costs less than anything with a French château on the label.
Qupé Syrah
Bob Lindquist's Qupé is one of the founding stories of Central Coast wine and still one of its most honest expressions of Syrah. On a list this polished, it can get overlooked in favor of flashier names — don't let that happen.
Brewer-Clifton Chardonnay
It's a great producer, but Brewer-Clifton Chardonnay has the kind of name recognition that tends to attract a markup. With Sandhi and Lieu Dit on the same list offering equal or better complexity at likely lower prices, this one can sit.
Sandhi Pinot Noir + Roast Chicken
Rajat Parr's Sandhi wines are built on restraint — cool-climate Santa Barbara Pinot with real Burgundian tension. Against a properly roasted chicken with whatever seasonal herbs Daisy and Ryan are running with, it's exactly the kind of match that makes you understand why this restaurant exists.
🎲 The Bottom Line
Bell's is the rare small-town restaurant where the wine list is as considered as the food, and the two actually talk to each other. If you're anywhere near Los Alamos, this is a destination — not a detour.
Santa Ynez · Solvang · Italian Trattoria
Trattoria Grappolo isn't trying to be a destination wine bar, and it doesn't need to be — it's a warm, well-run trattoria with a list that respects its address and feeds the food well. If you're in the Santa Ynez Valley and want local wines with good pasta, this is exactly the right call.

Full of Life Flatbread is the best argument for pulling off the freeway in Los Alamos — the food and the wine list are both punching way above what a casual flatbread spot has any business delivering. If you're driving through wine country and skipping this because it doesn't look like a tasting room, that's on you.

The markups on premium bottles drag it down, and the absence of any local Finger Lakes producers is a strange miss, but for a cozy French dinner in Canandaigua, the wine list will more than hold its own.
