Wingman Metrics
The Derryfield's wine list reads like a greatest hits of safe, recognizable labels — Duckhorn, Rombauer, Domaine Serene — curated for a crowd that knows what they like and isn't looking to be challenged. It fits the room: polished country club dining, white tablecloths, the kind of place where the wine list is an afterthought to the filet. There's nothing offensive here, but there's nothing surprising either.
120 labels sounds like depth until you realize the bulk of it is California-heavy, Napa-forward, and built around brands your in-laws recognize. The Willamette Valley gets a nod — Domaine Serene is a respectable inclusion — but don't come looking for a Grower Champagne, a Jura white, or anything that requires explanation. The list does its job for the audience it serves, but wine explorers will feel the walls closing in fast. Gaps in European representation are wide enough to drive a tractor through.
Twelve pours by the glass is a reasonable count, and the $10–$18 range keeps things accessible for a dinner-out crowd. The problem is the markups don't ease up just because it's a smaller pour — you're still paying country club rates on familiar California labels. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority here; what's on the list is what's on the list.
Rombauer Chardonnay Carneros 2022 — $68
Relative to the rest of the list, the Rombauer is the least punishing markup at 62% over retail. It's a rich, butter-forward California Chardonnay that's exactly what this room wants, and at $68 it's the closest thing to a fair deal here — especially on a Wednesday when it might land at half price.
Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
Most tables here are ordering the Duckhorn Cab without blinking, which means the Domaine Serene often gets overlooked. It's a serious Oregon Pinot from one of the valley's benchmark producers — more nuance and elegance than anything else on this list. The crowd sleeping on it is doing themselves a disservice.
Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2020
At $145 on the menu against a $75 retail price, this is a 93% markup on a bottle you've seen at every steakhouse in America. Duckhorn is a fine wine — it's also everywhere, and you're paying a serious premium for the logo. Save it for when someone else is buying.
Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Willamette Valley + Seared Scallops
Willamette Pinot has the acidity and red fruit lift to complement the sweetness of seared scallops without overwhelming them the way a big Napa Cab would. It's one of the few pairings on this list that shows some actual thought.
Wednesday — Select bottles half price after 5pm
The Bottom Line
The Derryfield is a reliable spot if you're here for the filet and the ambiance — the wine list won't blow your mind, but Wednesday's half-price bottle deal makes it worth timing your visit right. Come for the occasion, not the wine program.

Vine Thirty Two is doing the most credible wine program in Manchester, and by a comfortable margin. Send a friend here — just tell them to skip the Whispering Angel and ask questions.

Margaritas Manchester is a fun night out, and the bar program clearly gets the attention. The wine list is not the reason to come here — order the cocktails, enjoy the room, and don't overthink the glass pours.

Come here for the burgers and maybe a beer — the wine list is an obligation, not an attraction. If wine matters to your night out, this isn't your spot.

110 Grill Manchester is the wine equivalent of a reliable friend — not the most exciting person in the room, but they always show up and they never let you down. Send your friends here if they want a decent glass with dinner and zero stress; just don't send the Burgundy nerds.

Shorty's is a margarita bar that happens to have wine on the menu — and the wine knows it. Come for the frozen drinks and the fajitas; leave the wine list to collect dust.

South Willow · Manchester · Tex-Mex
Cactus Jack's is a fun place to eat Tex-Mex and throw back a margarita, and that's exactly the order of operations we'd recommend. The wine list is an afterthought dressed up as a menu section — don't send a friend here for wine unless the friend truly doesn't care about wine.

The Wild Sage is your dependable neighborhood spot in Eagle Ranch — the wine list won't blow your mind, but it won't embarrass you at dinner either. Watch the markups on the top-shelf Napa bottles and stick to the mid-range, and you'll be fine.

Warehouse Kitchen + Cork won't win any awards for depth or ambition, but it plays its hand honestly — fair prices, solid local representation, and a full by-the-glass program that respects your wallet. If you're in Traverse City and want a glass of something local with a water view, this works.

Sunnyside is a casual lodge restaurant wearing a serious wine list under its flannel — the markup is steep and it won't win any awards for staff expertise, but the producer lineup is legitimately impressive for where you're sitting. If you're already at the lake, this is absolutely worth ordering a real bottle.
