Wingman Metrics
You sit down, Lake Erie is right there doing its thing, and you pick up the wine list hoping for something to match the moment. What you get is 19 bottles that look like they were pulled from a hotel banquet order sheet — recognizable names, zero surprises, nothing that earns a second look.
The list is almost entirely domestic, California-heavy, and built around brands that show up on chain restaurant menus coast to coast. Erath Pinot Noir, Rodney Strong Merlot, Sea Sun Pinot Noir — these are perfectly fine wines, but there's no depth, no regional curiosity, and no sign that anyone spent time thinking about what might actually excite the person sitting at this bar. The lone international representative, a Cecchi Chianti DOCG, feels less like a deliberate choice and more like something that wandered in from a distributor's filler list. For a waterfront spot that draws tourists and locals alike, there's real opportunity here that's being completely ignored.
All 19 bottles are available by the glass, which sounds generous until you realize the full list is only 19 bottles — so it's less a curated by-the-glass program and more a case of just pouring everything they have. Prices run $7–$10 a glass, which is honest Erie waterfront pricing, but the range tops out at house Chardonnay and Cabernet with brand names nobody's mentioning by choice.
Erath 'Resplendent' Pinot Noir — $45
Of the bottles on this list, Erath is at least a legitimate producer with a track record in Oregon Pinot. At $45 it's not a steal, but it's the least offensive markup on the list and actually has some personality compared to the California crowd-pleasers surrounding it.
Cecchi Chianti DOCG
It's the only Old World wine on the list and most people here will walk right past it for something California. Cecchi is a solid, food-friendly Chianti that punches above its station — grab it with a burger or flatbread and you'll be pleasantly caught off guard.
Rodney Strong Sonoma Select Merlot
At $65 a bottle, you're paying a serious premium for a widely distributed, mid-tier Merlot that retails around $15–$18. The markup here is aggressive, and the wine doesn't justify it. Order a beer and enjoy the view.
Cecchi Chianti DOCG + Burgers
Chianti's bright acidity and light tannin structure cut right through a beef burger without overwhelming it — this is a classic Italian trattoria move and it works just as well at a lakeside bar. It's the most interesting combo on the menu.
❌ The Bottom Line
Shoreline is here for the scenery and the cold drafts, and the wine list knows it — nobody in charge of ordering is losing sleep over what's on this menu. Order a local craft beer, take in the bay, and save your wine budget for somewhere that's actually trying.
Peach Street Corridor · Erie · Steakhouse
The markup here is genuinely fair, which is the nicest thing we can say — you're not getting ripped off, you're just not getting anything interesting either. If wine matters to you, drink whatever's cheapest and put your attention where it belongs: the steak.

Texas Roadhouse is not a wine destination and makes no pretense of being one — the food is the draw and the wine list is an afterthought wearing a flannel shirt. Order a beer, a margarita, or just lean into the Woodbridge Cab and enjoy your steak.

Red Lobster Erie is not a wine destination — it's a seafood chain with a functional, forgettable list that keeps the table watered without inspiring anyone. Order the Chateau Ste. Michelle, enjoy your biscuits, and save the serious bottle for another night.

If you're already staying at the Sheraton and want wine with dinner, Bayfront Grille won't ruin your night — but it won't give you a story to tell, either. Come for the bay view, not the bottle list.

Presque Isle is a wild card in the best sense: an estate winery patio that prices at retail and pours wines you genuinely cannot find anywhere else. If you're passing through Lake Erie wine country and skip this stop, you've missed the point of the trip.

Johnson Estate is a destination for people who want to drink where the wine is made, not a stop for those chasing a deep cellar experience. If you're anywhere near Lake Erie and curious about what this AVA can actually do with Riesling, it's worth the detour.
