The wine list at Shires' Rooftop reads like a globe-trotting happy hour menu — approachable, international, and built for groups who want options without stress. Nothing here is going to make a serious collector sit up straight, but that's not the point. This is a rooftop with a panoramic view of Cincinnati, and the list knows its room.
The list pulls from a solid spread of regions — Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Argentina, Oregon, California, and even a local nod with the Revel OTR Pinot Gris from Cincinnati. You're not going to find obscure grower Champagne or aged Barolo hiding in the corners, but the breadth is respectable for a rooftop program. La Spinetta Sangiovese and Elouan Oregon Pinot Noir are legitimate picks that punch above their rooftop-bar-on-a-Tuesday context. The gaps are on the red side — depth thins out quickly once you move past the approachable crowd-pleasers.
Ten-plus options by the glass is a solid count, and the range spans sparkling, white, and red without leaning too hard in any one direction. The Dos Minas Torrontés and the Kentia Albariño are the kind of pours you don't usually see on a rooftop program, which earns points. Happy hour brings those pours down to $10, which changes the math considerably.
Dos Minas Torrontés 2021, Salta, Argentina — $10 (happy hour)
Salta Torrontés at happy hour pricing is genuinely rare. Aromatic, food-friendly, and interesting enough to make you feel like you know something the table next to you doesn't.
Revel OTR Pinot Gris 2022, Cincinnati/Washington
A local Cincinnati label on a rooftop wine list is the last thing you expect to find, and it deserves more attention than it's getting. It's a conversation starter and a genuine nod to what's happening in the regional wine scene.
Borsao Rosé 2018
A 220% markup on a $10 retail bottle is the steepest on the list. There are better values here — don't let the rooftop sunset talk you into this one at full price.
Kentia Albariño, Spain + Any seafood or light appetizer on the happy hour menu
Albariño and anything from the sea is a reflexive pairing for a reason — the wine's brightness and salinity cut through richness and make the whole thing feel lighter than it is. Perfect for grazing on a rooftop.
Happy Hour (days vary) — Featured wines by the glass at $10 during happy hour; bottles of featured wines at half price during the same window.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Shires' Rooftop isn't trying to be a wine destination, but with a sommelier on staff, a genuinely global list, and one of the better happy hour wine deals in Cincinnati, it earns its keep. Come for the view, stay for the $10 Torrontés.

Over-the-Rhine · Cincinnati · Tapas / Mediterranean-inspired small plates
Abigail Street is a Wild Card because nobody walks into a tapas spot in OTR expecting Lebanese orange wines and Champagne from Bollinger — but here we are. The markup math on the tap program stings, but the top half of this list is doing real work and earns a recommendation.

North / Kenwood area · Cincinnati · New American / Grill & Wine Bar
Seasons 52 Cincinnati is a chain wine program that punches above its weight class on volume and actually tries — Monday half-price bottles are a legitimate reason to show up on a specific night. Just go in knowing this is a crowd-pleaser list, not a discovery list, and you'll leave satisfied.

Mason · Cincinnati · West Coast–style American (brunch-focused cafe)
Maplewood Mason isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — the list is fair, accessible, and has just enough personality (Stolpman, Jezebel Blanc) to keep it from being totally forgettable. If you're here for brunch, grab a glass and don't overthink it.

Hyde Park · Cincinnati · Italian (housemade pasta, wood-fired pizza)
Forno Hyde Park is a reliable neighborhood wine program that doesn't embarrass itself — solid Italian range, reasonable glass pours, and a Wood-Down Wednesday deal that genuinely changes the math on the better bottles. The markups on everyday bottles are hard to ignore, but if you time it right and order smart, there's a real dinner here.

Chart House delivers exactly what it promises: a reliable, unadventurous wine list in a spectacular waterfront setting. Come for the view and the lobster bisque — just don't expect the wine list to match the scenery.
