Gulf Views Can't Save This Markup

Wingman Metrics
Walk into Seaguini and the Gulf of Mexico is doing a lot of heavy lifting — the views are stunning, the room is sleek, and the wine list arrives looking like it means business. Then you actually read it, and you realize the list is basically a greatest hits of airport hotel restaurant wine programs: Cakebread, Jordan, Veuve Clicquot, Santa Margherita. Nothing wrong with any of those bottles in theory, but at these prices, the only thing bold here is the markup.
The list leans hard on California — Napa Cabs, Sonoma Pinots, Chardonnay — with Italian Pinot Grigio and Prosecco sprinkled in for the seafood crowd, and a Provence rosé or two for the beachside aesthetic. There's no real depth here: no interesting growers, no regional curiosities, nothing that suggests anyone spent more than an afternoon building this list. Belle Glos "Dairyman" Pinot Noir is probably the most interesting bottle on the menu, and even that is about as adventurous as a khaki polo. The Italian and French sections feel like they exist to check boxes rather than to actually say something.
We're told the by-the-glass program runs 12 to 20 options, which sounds generous until you realize it's almost certainly the same cast of characters — Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, something bubbly from Veuve Clicquot, a Napa Cab. Glass pours run $11–$20, which is passable for a resort, but don't expect much rotation or any sense that someone is curating this with any real intention.
Belle Glos "Dairyman" Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2021 — $95
At a 73% markup, this is genuinely the least egregious bottle on the list — and it's actually a solid, full-bodied Pinot that holds up against rich seafood dishes. By Seaguini's standards, this practically counts as a deal.
Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2018
At $225, it's not cheap, but at only 50% over retail it's the closest thing to a fair deal on the bottle list — and Silver Oak is built to age and reward. If you're going to spend big here, at least spend it on this.
Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label NV
At $155 a bottle, you're paying a 138% markup on a Champagne you can grab at Total Wine for $65. It's a fine bubbly, but this is pure resort tax. Order a glass of something else and save the celebration for when you leave.
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Alto Adige 2022 + Grilled Whole Fish
Yes, Santa Margherita is the reliable workhorse of Italian whites — but it earns its place next to a simply prepared whole fish. Clean, citrusy, and low enough in oak that it doesn't fight the delicate char. Just know you're paying $65 for a $30 bottle.
❌ The Bottom Line
Seaguini is a restaurant that decided the view would do the selling, and priced its wine list accordingly. If you're here for the Gulf sunset, order a glass and enjoy it — but anyone looking for an honest wine program at a fair price should temper expectations or order a cocktail instead.
Westshore · Clearwater · Fine-dining steakhouse
The Capital Grille is a reliable machine — the wine program is competent, well-staffed, and properly executed, but the markups are steep and the list plays it extremely safe. Send a friend here for a business dinner, but tell them to order Jordan before anyone at the table reaches for the Opus One.

Fleming's is a reliable machine — excellent execution, real wine depth by-the-glass, staff that knows the list, and no surprises in a bad way. Just don't expect discovery; expect comfort, and budget accordingly for markup.

Guppy's won't win any awards for adventurous curation, but the list is fairly priced, thoughtfully stocked for a seafood crowd, and broad enough that everyone at the table finds something. Send a friend here for the grouper and tell them to drink the Cloudy Bay.

E&E Stakeout Grill is a perfectly decent neighborhood steakhouse wine list that asks too much on most nights — but Wine Wednesday flips the math entirely and makes this one of the better value plays in the Clearwater area. Come on a Wednesday, order the Chianti Classico, and you'll have zero complaints.

Clearwater Beach · Clearwater · Mediterranean and Mexican-inspired wine bar and bistro
This is the best wine program you're likely to find within walking distance of Clearwater Beach, and that's not faint praise — it's a genuine destination for the wine-curious crowd that usually has to settle for whatever's on draft. Wednesday's half-price U.S. bottle deal seals it: show up, order spaghetti, drink better than you planned.
