Wingman Metrics
Ruth's Chris is doing what Ruth's Chris always does: a polished, dimly lit room where the wine list exists to serve the steak, not challenge you. The program leans hard into California — Napa Cabs and Paso Robles reds dominate — and the list reads exactly like you'd expect from a national chain operating in a special-occasion lane. Nothing on the menu is going to surprise you, and that's kind of the point.
The regional focus here is predictably West Coast: Napa Valley and Paso Robles anchor the red side of the list, with Washington State showing up as the token Pacific Northwest representative. If you're looking for Burgundy or anything from the Southern Hemisphere, you're probably out of luck. This is a list built for the Cab-with-steak crowd, and it delivers that lane competently — just don't come expecting depth or discovery. Variety outside of big California reds is likely thin, and the white and sparkling selection feels like an afterthought relative to the red-heavy focus.
By-the-glass specifics aren't verified from our research, so we can't tell you exactly what's pouring or at what price. What we can tell you is that at a restaurant in this price tier, expect glass pours to run north of $15-20, likely featuring recognizable California names. The selection is probably safe and serviceable — nothing that's going to make you put your fork down in amazement.
The Bottom Line
Ruth's Chris Fresno is a reliable landing pad if someone else is picking the restaurant and wine takes a back seat to a great center-cut filet. The wine program isn't adventurous and markups at this tier tend to sting, but the service is polished and the experience is consistent. If wine is the reason you're going out, look elsewhere — but if it's the steak and wine is just along for the ride, you'll be fine.
· Fresno · Wine Bar & Charcuterie
Cork & Knife earns a Wild Card badge because it's doing something genuinely uncommon for Fresno: running a real wine bar with structured tastings, a half-price Wednesday deal, and a daily happy hour that keeps the barrier low. We can't vouch for every bottle on the list without seeing it, but the bones of a thoughtful program are here — and if you're in the area, a $9 glass at happy hour is a very low-risk way to find out for yourself.

· Fresno · Regional Italian
The Annex Kitchen is doing something genuinely uncommon in Fresno's dining scene — building an all-by-the-glass Italian wine list that actually reflects the cuisine it's serving. The Franciacorta, the Durello, the Barbera, the two Soaves — this is a list assembled with intention, not just filled in. We'd send a friend here for wine without hesitation, especially at these prices.

Wine Bar 559 is doing something genuinely interesting in a city not known for its wine culture — a sparkling-forward list with real depth, fair pricing, and a by-the-glass program that doesn't insult you. If you're passing through Fresno or live there and haven't been, this is the kind of place that makes you reassess your assumptions.

Piazza Del Pane isn't going to make any wine destination lists, but it's a solid, fairly priced California-centric list that does right by its crowd. If you like what you already know, you'll drink well here.

· Fresno · Beer & Wine Restaurant
Tap & Cellar is a Wild Card in the best sense: a beer-first casual spot that clearly has wine opinions, even if it doesn't shout about them. We'd send a friend here for a low-stakes Friday night with a glass of something local and a charcuterie board — just don't expect a deep-dive list.

MOTO is exactly the kind of place that shouldn't have a wine list this considered, and yet here we are. Send your friends who think Fresno doesn't have a wine scene — this won't overwhelm them, but it might surprise them.

· Roswell · Steakhouse
Little Alley Steak has built a genuinely impressive Champagne program — uncommon for a suburban steakhouse — and the depth from Collet up through Cristal gives serious wine drinkers something to work with. The markups are real and the still wine program doesn't match the ambition of the sparkling section, but if you're here to pop bottles with a ribeye, there are worse places to do it. Order the Crémant, save your money, and let someone else pay for the Veuve.

· San Jose · Steakhouse
The Capital Grille San Jose is a reliable but unambitious wine program — it stocks the bottles a Napa-loving business dinner crowd expects and prices them accordingly. If you're looking for discovery or value, you won't find much here; if you need a solid Cab to go with a dry-aged steak and you're on someone else's tab, it does the job.

Kevin Rathbun Steak's by-the-glass program is a legitimate effort in a category — steakhouses — where most restaurants phone it in. The pricing skews steep at the top end and there's no evidence of active wine events or rotation keeping things fresh, but the range is real and a few picks like the Long-Depaquit Chablis and Lachini Pinot Noir punch above their weight. Come for the steak, but don't just default to the house Cab — there's more here if you look.
