Wingman Metrics
The list at Roselily reads like someone handed a distributor rep a budget and said 'fill it up.' You'll recognize every label here — and not in the good, 'oh they really know their stuff' way. It's the kind of list that exists because a restaurant needs a wine list, not because anyone thought hard about it.
What we have are the reliable workhorses of the mid-tier restaurant wine world: J Lohr Cab, Macrostie Chard, Terrazas Malbec — solid bottles in their own right, but nothing that suggests curiosity or regional ambition. The nod to the Jean-Luc Colombo Côtes du Rhône Blanc is the one moment of mild interest, though it's hardly a deep cut. The Reserve POLK Wine Club affiliation is mentioned but doesn't visibly translate into anything exciting or exclusive on the floor. There are no emerging producers, no interesting domestic regions beyond the usual suspects, and no old-world depth to speak of.
We couldn't pin down a confirmed by-the-glass program from available data, which is itself a yellow flag. A chef-driven spot at this price point should have a tight, rotating glass program to match the seasonal menu — if it exists here, it's not being communicated. That silence doesn't inspire confidence.
J Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2020 — $46
It's the least-bad deal on the list. J Lohr Seven Oaks is a dependable, fruit-forward Cab that retails around $18 — so yes, the markup stings, but at least the bottle itself delivers what it promises. In a list full of uninspired choices, this one at least won't disappoint the table.
Jean-Luc Colombo La Redonne Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2020
Most diners at a place like this will reach for the Chardonnay or the Malbec without a second thought. The Colombo Rhône Blanc — likely a Marsanne-Viognier blend — is the one bottle that shows any sense of place or personality. It's the closest thing to an interesting choice on this list, and most people will walk right past it.
Gruet Brut Méthode Champenoise NV
Gruet is a fun, affordable sparkling wine from New Mexico that retails for about $18. Charging $50 for it — a 178% markup — is a hard no. Order it at the bar down the street, or just don't order bubbles here.
Jean-Luc Colombo La Redonne Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2020 + Seasonal chef's small plates
Whatever Roselily's kitchen is doing with lighter, vegetable-forward or seafood-leaning seasonal plates, this Rhône Blanc has the weight and aromatic complexity to keep up without bulldozing the dish. It's the rare wine on this list that actually feels like it belongs in a chef-driven context.
❌ The Bottom Line
Roselily clearly invests in the kitchen — the wine list just didn't get the same memo. The markups are aggressive, the selection is safe to the point of boredom, and nothing here suggests anyone is losing sleep over what's in the cellar. Order something off the cocktail menu and save the bottle of wine for somewhere that cares.
Mishawaka · South Bend · Casual Seafood and Grill
Bonefish Grill Mishawaka isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — and at $6–$9 a glass with recognizable, well-stored bottles, it earns its place as a reliable option when you just want a decent pour with your salmon. Send your friends here knowing the wine won't disappoint, even if it won't surprise anyone either.

North side / Tippecanoe area · South Bend · American
Tippecanoe Place is a beautiful room with a wine list that plays it very, very safe — fine for a anniversary dinner where the ambiance is doing most of the work, but don't come here expecting the wine to match the architecture. Order the Jordan, enjoy the mansion, and leave the exploration for another night.

Sunny Italy Cafe is a genuinely beloved South Bend institution — the food has the history and the heart. The wine list, unfortunately, is just along for the ride. Order the pasta, drink the Montepulciano, and don't expect much more than that.

South Bend · South Bend · Casino Dining / American Steakhouse
Four Winds Copper Rock has built a wine list that punches well above what any casino in this zip code needs to — 450 bottles is real, and the anchoring producers are crowd-pleasing for a reason. The markups are casino-predictable and the program lacks the staff depth and rotating energy to reach its potential, but if you're eating steak in South Bend tonight, this is where you want to be drinking.

Café Navarre is clearly doing something right in the kitchen, but the wine list is on autopilot — overpriced supermarket brands in a room that deserves more ambition. Order a cocktail, or bring your own if they allow it.

Circa 1918 isn't trying to be a wine destination, but it's doing more than most neighborhood fine-dining spots bother to do. Fair prices, a few genuinely interesting European picks, and a room that takes hospitality seriously — send a friend here without hesitation.

OHMS is doing real cooking, and the wine list hasn't kept up — steep markups on grocery-store names don't match the ambition on the plate. Go for the duck confit, order a cocktail, and save the wine night for somewhere that's actually trying.
