Walking into Peasants, you're greeted by a wine shop that moonlights as a deli — or maybe the other way around. The shelves are stacked with serious Santa Barbara County producers at retail prices, which in a tourist-heavy wine town like Solvang is genuinely rare. This is not a place trying to fleece day-trippers; it's a place that actually wants you to drink well.
The list is tight but laser-focused on Santa Barbara County's best appellations — Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Ynez Valley, and Happy Canyon all get representation. Stolpman Vineyards, Dragonette Cellars, Brewer-Clifton, and Melville are exactly the kind of producers that make this region worth caring about, and they're all here. You won't find Napa Cabs or Willamette Pinots to pad the count — and that restraint is a feature, not a bug. The gap is depth beyond these anchor names, but for a deli and market, the curation punches well above its weight class.
Six to twelve pours rotating through the same quality-focused local producers, priced between $12 and $20 a glass — which is remarkably fair for the caliber of wine on offer. Don't expect a formal tasting flight experience; this is more pour-it-in-a-stemless-and-take-it-to-a-picnic table energy. That's not a knock — it fits the format perfectly.
Dragonette Cellars Sauvignon Blanc — $20
At retail pricing in a market setting, you're getting one of Santa Ynez Valley's most food-friendly whites at a fraction of what a nearby tasting room charges to pour it for you. Grab a bottle with your sandwich and don't look back.
Stolpman Vineyards Syrah
Most people grabbing lunch here reach for a Pinot Noir because it feels safer, but Stolpman's Syrah is the real reason Santa Barbara deserves serious attention. It's structured, savory, and built for food — and most visitors walk right past it.
Brewer-Clifton Chardonnay
Brewer-Clifton makes excellent wine and the price here is fair, but if you're eating a deli sandwich or charcuterie board on the go, cracking a serious Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is a bit like wearing a tuxedo to a tailgate. Save this one for a proper sit-down setting where you can give it the attention it deserves.
Melville Pinot Noir + Charcuterie Board
Melville's Pinot has the bright acidity and red fruit character to cut through cured meats and hold its own against a range of local cheeses. It's the kind of versatile, medium-weight red that was basically engineered for exactly this scenario.

Trattoria Grappolo isn't trying to be a destination wine bar, and it doesn't need to be — it's a warm, well-run trattoria with a list that respects its address and feeds the food well. If you're in the Santa Ynez Valley and want local wines with good pasta, this is exactly the right call.

Full of Life Flatbread is the best argument for pulling off the freeway in Los Alamos — the food and the wine list are both punching way above what a casual flatbread spot has any business delivering. If you're driving through wine country and skipping this because it doesn't look like a tasting room, that's on you.
