Wingman Metrics
One hundred and seventy-five labels at a beach-town eatery is not what you expect when you roll into Daytona Beach. The list reads like someone actually sat down and thought about it — Rioja, Super Tuscans, Malbec from two different producers, and a Prosecco pour at $10 a glass that might be the best deal on the beach. It's ambitious, occasionally overpriced, but never boring.
The red program carries most of the weight here, with a Pinot Noir flight from Acrobat at the entry level up through ZD at $80 — a reasonable progression that lets you trade up without going off a cliff. California Cabs dominate the mid-tier with the predictable suspects (Joel Gott 815, Sean Minor, Caymus), and while none of that is groundbreaking, the inclusion of Cune Crianza Rioja at $40 and Banfi Chianti Classico at $50 shows someone was paying attention to Old World representation. The Lucente Super Tuscan at $80 is the most interesting bottle on the list. Gaps show up in white wines and sparkling — the bubbly section leans heavily on La Marca and Moët, which is safe but unremarkable.
Thirty-three pours by the glass is a genuinely impressive number — most restaurants with this ambition cap out around fifteen. The glass range spans $10 to $35, and you can work your way through a legitimate tasting progression without committing to a bottle. That said, we'd love to see more rotation and fewer permanent fixtures that haven't changed in years.
Cune Crianza Rioja — $40
Tempranillo from one of Rioja's most dependable houses at a bottle price that's fair for a sit-down restaurant. This is the move when everyone else at the table is ordering predictable California Cab.
Lucente Super Tuscan
Lucente is the second label from Luce della Vite — a Frescobaldi-Mondavi joint venture — and it punches well above its station. Most guests will skip past it on the way to the Caymus, which is exactly their loss and your gain.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
At $175, you're paying a premium for a label that every steakhouse in America stocks. Caymus is fine wine, but it's not $175 fine at a Daytona Beach eatery. The Round Pond at $104 is a better Napa Cab and a smarter spend.
Orin Swift 8 Years in the Desert + Grilled ribeye or burger
8 Years in the Desert is a big, fruit-forward GSM blend built for exactly this kind of situation — bold American proteins, warm evening, casual atmosphere. At $120 it's not cheap, but it's the kind of bottle that makes a table feel like an occasion.
The Bottom Line
Norwoods is doing more with wine than most Florida beach bars dare to try — 175 labels and 33 glass pours is a real commitment. The markups get aggressive at the top end, but there's genuine value if you know where to look.
