Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Margarita's is exactly what you'd expect from a lively West Duluth Mexican bar and grill — it exists, and that's about the nicest thing we can say about it. Seven labels, all the usual suspects, no surprises. The real action here is clearly in the margarita department, and honestly, that's fine.
The list runs through the generic varietal checklist: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio. No producers are named anywhere we could find, no regions called out, no story being told. This is wine as a box to tick, not a program someone built with intention. There are no bottles that would make a wine-curious diner do a double take — for better or worse.
All seven wines are available by the glass at $8 a pop, which is at least consistent and easy to navigate. There's no rotation, no seasonal swap-in, no attempt to keep things interesting — what's listed is what's listed, full stop. At $8 a glass in Duluth, the pricing is fair enough that you won't feel burned, just underwhelmed.
Riesling — $8
If you're eating tacos or anything with chile heat, Riesling is the one glass on this list doing actual food-pairing work. At $8, it's the most purposeful pour they offer.
Sauvignon Blanc
Most people here are ordering Cabs and Merlots out of habit. The Sauvignon Blanc is the better call with the lighter menu items — it at least has a shot at cutting through the acidity in the salsa verde.
Merlot
An unnamed Merlot at a Mexican restaurant is a swing that almost never connects. Without a producer or region attached, there's no reason to believe this is anything other than bulk wine in a stem. Order the margarita.
Riesling + Fajitas
The char and spice from the fajita plate needs something with a little sweetness and acidity to hold up — Riesling is the only wine on this list built for that job.
❌ The Bottom Line
Margarita's is a genuinely fun neighborhood spot, but the wine list is an afterthought dressed up as a decision. Come for the fajitas and the cocktails — if you must have wine, grab the Riesling and move on.
Woodland · Duluth · Pizza, American Grill
Bulldog Pizza & Grill is a perfectly good neighborhood pizza spot that has no business being evaluated for its wine program, because there isn't really one. Drink the beer, enjoy the pizza, and save your wine curiosity for a different night.

Miller Hill · Duluth · Italian
Come for the never-ending pasta bowl and the breadsticks; the wine program is an afterthought that charges you for the privilege of being ignored. If you want a real glass of wine with dinner, this is not your night.

Canal Park · Duluth · Casual Italian / American
Green Mill is a solid pizza-and-a-beer kind of place, and the wine list knows it — it's not trying to be anything more than a functional afterthought. Send a friend here for deep dish and a cold drink, not for the wine.

Fitger's Complex · Duluth · Hotel Restaurant / American
Lake Avenue Café shouldn't have a wine list this interesting — and that's exactly why you should pay attention to it. If you're passing through Duluth or staying at Fitger's, make a Wednesday reservation and work the half-price list.

Lincoln Park · Duluth · Thai
Thai by Thai isn't here to impress a wine crowd, and that's completely fine — at $7 a glass and $27 a bottle, this is a no-stress, just-drink-something spot where the food is the reason you came anyway. Order the Kung Fu Girl Riesling, get the Drunken Noodle, and stop overthinking it.

Downtown · Duluth · Indian
India Palace is a genuinely solid spot for Indian food in Duluth, but the wine program is collecting dust. Steep markups, a California-only list that ignores everything that actually works with spiced cuisine, and zero signs of anyone caring enough to change it — order a mango lassi and save the wine for somewhere else.

Old Morgantown Road · Bowling Green · Mexican
Los Primos is a solid neighborhood Mexican spot, but the wine program is purely incidental — three glasses, no bottles, no story. Stick to the margaritas, which is almost certainly what the kitchen and bar were built around anyway.

Downtown / East Superior Street · Duluth · Mexican
Lindo is a solid casual Mexican spot with lake views and a great cocktail program — just don't come here for wine. Order a margarita, enjoy the view, and save the bottle for somewhere else.

Downtown Livermore · Livermore · Mexican
Blue Agave Club is first and foremost a tequila destination, but the wine list earns its place by betting on local Livermore producers and sneaking in a wild card or two. If you're eating here and skipping the wine entirely, you're missing a cheap way to drink well in wine country.
