The list reads like a love letter to France with an Oregon postscript, and that's not a bad thing. It's short enough to scan in two minutes but curated enough that someone clearly made deliberate choices. The French-bistro DNA runs all the way through — this isn't a random collection of crowd pleasers.
Marché leans hard into the France-Oregon axis that makes sense for a market bistro in Eugene. You've got Loire and Rhône representation alongside Beaujolais and Burgundy-adjacent picks, while the Oregon side stays firmly planted in Willamette Valley. The Château de la Chaize Brouilly is a smart call — proper cru Beaujolais that most restaurants in this town wouldn't bother with. Gaps show up in anything outside that France-Oregon lane: no Spanish bottles, no Italy, nothing to rattle the cage. It's focused, not adventurous.
Eight to twelve pours on any given visit, which is a reasonable slate for a bistro of this size. The glass program mirrors the bottle list in focus — expect Willamette Pinot Gris, something from the Rhône, and a sparkling option like the Crémant de Loire to anchor the top of the menu. Rotation appears limited; don't count on the list changing much season to season.
Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley — $78
At roughly 95% markup over retail, this is the most reasonably priced bottle on the list relative to what you're getting. Eyrie is the founding estate of Oregon Pinot Noir — drinking this here, in Eugene, makes contextual sense in a way that justifies the spend.
Château de la Chaize Brouilly
Most people's eyes slide right past Beaujolais on a wine list, which is their loss. Brouilly is one of the ten crus — a completely different animal from the Nouveau stuff — and Château de la Chaize is one of the appellation's serious estates. Order this with the steak frites and thank us later.
Paul Jaboulet Côtes du Rhône
A 167% markup on a $18 retail bottle is the kind of math that stings. Jaboulet makes fine wine, but Côtes du Rhône is an entry-level appellation and there's no reason to pay $48 for it here when better bottles on this same list offer more for less.
Château de la Chaize Brouilly + Steak Frites
Gamay from a serious Beaujolais cru has the acidity to cut through the richness of the butter and frites while still having enough fruit and structure to stand up to the beef. It's the bistro pairing that French grandmothers have been quietly right about for decades.
The Bottom Line
Marché is a genuinely good neighborhood wine list wearing a slightly expensive suit. The curation is real and the France-Oregon focus makes sense — just go in knowing you'll pay a bit of a premium, and steer clear of the Jaboulet.
