Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Maggie McFly's is exactly what you'd expect to find laminated inside a menu at a place that also has a page dedicated to loaded nachos. We're talking grocery store shelf-stockers dressed up as a restaurant wine program — Kendall-Jackson, Woodbridge, Cavit, Barefoot. It's not offensive, but it's not trying either.
The list leans entirely on mass-market California brands and a token Italian Pinot Grigio from Cavit to cover the 'international' bases. There's no depth, no indie producers, no interesting regions, and nothing that would make a curious drinker pause. What you see is what you get: approachable, inoffensive, and completely forgettable. If you're hoping to find a sleeper pick buried in the list, save yourself the effort — this is the wine equivalent of a greatest-hits compilation with no deep cuts.
The by-the-glass program runs roughly 10-14 options in the $8-$11 range, which is at least honest about what it is. The pours are predictable — Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cab, Pinot Noir, Moscato — and rotate about as often as the wallpaper does. It covers the table without embarrassing anyone, and that's about as far as the ambition goes.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay — $32/bottle
It's the least offensive markup on the list at 146% over retail, and at least KJ Chard is a known quantity — reliably clean, lightly oaked, and crowd-friendly. Come Wednesday and you're closer to retail than most restaurants would ever let you get.
Cavit Pinot Grigio
It's not exciting, but in this context it's the most food-friendly wine on the list. Light, crisp, and lower in alcohol — it actually works against the flatbreads and lighter apps without fighting the food the way the bolder California reds tend to.
Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon
A 211% markup on a $9 retail bottle is the worst value math on the list. You're paying $28 for something that lives in a cardboard box at Stop & Shop. Skip it, or wait for Wednesday and feel slightly less taken.
Robert Mondavi Private Selection Pinot Noir + Specialty Gourmet Burger
Mondavi's Pinot is soft-edged and low-tannin enough that it won't clash with the burger's char or a toasted brioche bun. It's not a revelation, but it's the most logical red on the list for something this rich and casual.
Wednesday — House wine and select bottled wines offered at approximately half price on Wednesdays at Connecticut locations. Policies may vary by unit — worth confirming with your specific location before you plan your evening around it.
❌ The Bottom Line
Maggie McFly's wine program is an afterthought dressed up as a list — steep markups on grocery store brands with nothing interesting to discover. The Wednesday half-price wine night is genuinely the only reason to order a bottle here; the rest of the week, stick to whatever's on draft.
West Hartford Center · Hartford · Upscale American Seafood and Raw Bar
Max's Oyster Bar is exactly the kind of reliable wine program a seafood-focused restaurant should have — thoughtfully built around what's on the plate, staffed by people who can guide you through it. The markup keeps it from being exceptional, but if you stick to the Old World whites, you'll drink very well.

West Hartford · Hartford · American Tavern
Tavern in the Square West Hartford is a perfectly decent place to watch a game and eat a burger, but the wine list is purely functional — familiar brands, steep markups, and zero curation. Stick to draft beer or a cocktail unless a glass of Prosecco is all you need.

Downtown Hartford · Hartford · New American / Seafood
Max's Trumbull Kitchen is a reliable wine stop elevated by a genuinely smart focus on seafood-friendly whites — just don't pay full price when you can come back on Thursday and get the whole list at half off. That changes the math considerably.

West Hartford Center · Hartford · American / Burgers / Gastropub
Max Burger isn't a wine destination — it's a burger destination that happens to take wine seriously enough to price it fairly and run half-off Thursdays. If you're eating here anyway, you're in better shape than you think.

Blue Back Square / West Hartford · Hartford · Spanish Tapas
Boqueria West Hartford won't surprise wine geeks, but it delivers a coherent, fairly priced Spanish list that genuinely serves the food. If you're eating tapas and drinking well, this is a solid neighborhood call.

Blue Back Square / West Hartford · Hartford · Steakhouse, American
Fleming's West Hartford is a reliable, polished steakhouse wine program that does exactly what it sets out to do — pour well-known California wines in a nice glass to people who are already spending $60 on a steak. Just don't expect to discover anything, and watch the markup on the big names.
