Thirteen bottles isn't a lot, but the names on this list aren't the usual Italian-American suspects — no Meiomi Pinot, no Santa Margherita, no tired Chianti with a rooster you've seen a hundred times. LUCA is swinging for something more considered, and honestly, they mostly connect. For Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this list reads like someone actually cared.
The list leans hard into Italy, which tracks for a wood-fired Italian spot, but the picks are sharper than expected. Sartarelli Verdicchio 2021 is a genuinely good white from Marche — not a random Italian grocery shelf pick. The ROCCO Chianti Classico DOCG 2019 and Camparo Domani Barolo Classic DOCG 2018 give the red side some backbone and regional credibility. The Emiliano Falsini IL DEBBIO Cabernet Franc 2022 is the wildcard, a Tuscan Cab Franc that signals the list-builder has range. The T&D Menagerie Chardonnay is the lone California detour, and it doesn't feel out of place — it feels like a concession to the crowd that needs it, handled without shame.
Twelve by-the-glass options out of thirteen bottles means almost everything is available by the pour, which is a generous and practical move for a 13-label list. Glass prices run $13–$30, and the after-dinner anchors — San Felice Vin Santo at $14 and Cocchi Dopo Teatro Vermouth at $16 — are a genuinely smart touch that most restaurants at this level skip entirely. The rotating rosé keeps things flexible without committing to something that might sit.
Sartarelli Verdicchio 2021 — $52
Sartarelli is one of the benchmark producers for Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi — this is a serious wine from a serious house, and $52 a bottle is a fair pour for what you're getting. Order it while the wood-fired kitchen is still firing.
Emiliano Falsini IL DEBBIO Cabernet Franc 2022
Cab Franc from Tuscany isn't what most tables are scanning for, and that's exactly why you should order it. Falsini is a boutique producer making wines that don't show up everywhere — this is the bottle that tells you the list-builder has a point of view.
Camparo Domani Barolo Classic DOCG 2018
At $118, the Barolo is the prestige anchor on the list, and we don't doubt it's a real Barolo. But Barolo needs air, needs patience, and a busy restaurant table isn't where it shines. You're paying top dollar for a wine that might not show its best in this context — save the Barolo for somewhere with proper decanters and time to spare.
ROCCO Chianti Classico DOCG 2019 + Wood-fired pizza or roasted meat
Chianti Classico and a wood-fired anything is one of the most reliable combinations in Italian dining — the acidity in the Sangiovese cuts through char and fat, and the ROCCO at $78 is priced fair enough that you're not white-knuckling every sip.
The Bottom Line
LUCA isn't trying to be a wine bar, but whoever put this list together has better taste than most Italian restaurants twice its size. For Lancaster, this is genuinely worth ordering a bottle over.
