Twenty-one bottles isn't a lot to work with, but Le Grand's list reads like someone actually thought about it — French backbone with smart global detours, not just a brasserie clipboard of Chardonnay and Cab. The price ceiling stops at $90, which for a sit-down French spot in the Seattle suburbs is refreshingly restrained. This is a short list that earns its brevity.
The white side punches above its weight: Eschenhof Holzer Roter Veltliner and Buglioni Turbiana 'Gabriella' signal that whoever built this list has range beyond the obvious. Loire gets proper representation with both a Domaine Pichot Vouvray and Jean Marie Reverdy Sancerre, and the Hecht & Bannier Picpoul is a crowd-pleasing bistro workhorse done right. Reds are leaner — Domaine Beaurenard Côtes du Rhône and La Causa País anchor the value end, with Tinto Negro Cabernet Franc from Mendoza adding some intrigue. The bubbly section is a genuine standout for a 21-bottle list: Delamotte, Palmer, Albert Bichot Crémant, and Pierre Sparr Crémant d'Alsace covering four distinct expressions, which is a thoughtful flex. The Shania Sparkling Verdejo Zero ABV is a smart inclusion for non-drinkers.
With 20 of 21 bottles available by the glass ($12–$28), this is essentially an all-by-the-glass program, which is rare and genuinely useful for table exploration. That flexibility means you can pour your way through the Vouvray, pivot to the Bandol rosé, and finish with the Côtes du Rhône without committing to a full bottle of anything. Rotation appears fixed rather than seasonal, but when the selection is this accessible, that's a manageable tradeoff.
Domaine Rothchild Les Légendes 'R' Bordeaux 2022 — $52
A Lafite Rothschild-adjacent label at $52 a bottle is the kind of name-recognition play that overdelivers on perceived value — structured, food-friendly Bordeaux that would sit at $70+ anywhere else in the region.
Eschenhof Holzer Roter Veltliner 2018
A 2018 Austrian Roter Veltliner on a French brasserie list in Kirkland, Washington is genuinely unexpected. This grape gets overlooked even in wine bars, and Holzer is a serious producer — spicy, textural, and completely unlike anything else on the list.
Rombauer Chardonnay 2024
At $90, you're paying a significant premium for a bottle that retails around $30 and leans hard into the butter-and-oak style that's everywhere. The Bernier Chardonnay at $48 or the Vouvray at $60 both offer more actual interest for the money.
Hecht & Bannier Rosé (Bandol) 2023 + Moules frites
Bandol rosé is built for exactly this — the Mourvèdre-driven structure and saline edge cut through the briny mussels while the bright acidity makes the frites a side trip worth taking.
The Bottom Line
Le Grand is doing something genuinely thoughtful inside a tight 21-bottle format — the bubbly selection alone beats most full-sized lists in the area, and the pricing stays honest throughout. Send a friend here, tell them to skip the Rombauer, and work their way through the glass pours.

Le Grand Bistro Americain is a genuinely lovely spot to watch the sun drop over Lake Washington — but the wine list is coasting hard on that view. Until the markups come down or someone builds a list that actually reflects the French-American ambition of the kitchen, we'd say order a cocktail and save the wine budget for somewhere that earns it.
