All-Greek, All-In, No Apologies

Wingman Metrics
The wine list here is basically a love letter to Greek viticulture, and we mean that in the best possible way. You won't find a Cabernet hiding in the corner for the nervous diner β this is a full commitment to indigenous Greek grapes, which is either exactly what you came for or a mild panic attack waiting to happen. We respect the conviction.
The list runs 50-80 bottles and stays almost exclusively in Greek territory, hitting all the major appellations β Santorini for whites, Naoussa and Nemea for reds, with Mantinia sneaking in for the adventurous. Assyrtiko anchors the white side with its volcanic mineral snap, while Xinomavro and Agiorgitiko carry the reds with real personality. The depth isn't encyclopedic, but what's here is curated with purpose β you're not seeing filler bottles propped up by recognizable French or Italian names. The gap is obvious if you came with someone who refuses to engage: there's almost no international fallback, which is a feature, not a bug.
Ten to sixteen options by the glass is a solid pour program, and the range appears to track the bottle list β meaning you can explore Assyrtiko or Moschofilero without committing to a full bottle at a table of two who can't agree. Rotation details are unclear, but the by-the-glass breadth here is genuinely above average for a neighborhood Greek spot, giving curious drinkers a real on-ramp to unfamiliar grapes.
Assyrtiko, Santorini β $14
Santorini Assyrtiko at a fair price point is almost always a steal β it's one of the most distinctive whites in the world, with saline minerality and razor acidity that was practically engineered to cut through grilled fish and rich spreads. Getting it by the glass here without paying a premium is the move.
Moschofilero, Mantinia
Most people scroll past Moschofilero because they can't pronounce it, which means it sits underordered and underappreciated. It's light, aromatic, almost floral with good acid β think a leaner, more interesting Pinot Grigio β and it's criminally underrated with the mezze spreads and lighter apps.
Agiorgitiko, Nemea
Not because it's bad β it isn't β but the Nemea Agiorgitiko tends to be the most generic entry point on lists like this, often a mid-tier commercial bottling that doesn't show the grape at its best. If you're going red, push toward the Xinomavro from Naoussa instead; it has more character and makes a stronger case for Greek reds.
Assyrtiko, Santorini + Whole Grilled Fish
This is not a subtle pairing β it's the obvious call for a reason. Santorini Assyrtiko's high acid and ocean-kissed minerality mirrors the clean, bright flavors of a whole grilled fish better than almost anything from outside Greece. It's the combination that's been working in the Aegean for centuries, and Kapnos Taverna is giving you a chance to do it in Pentagon City.
π² The Bottom Line
If you're willing to let Greece drive, Kapnos Taverna's wine list is one of the more focused and honest all-Greek programs you'll find at this price point in the DC area. Send a friend here β but brief them on the concept first so they don't show up expecting a Chardonnay.
Shirlington Β· Arlington Β· American Brasserie
Carlyle won't change your relationship with wine, but it won't ruin it either β and on Tuesday, when everything on the bottle list is half off, it briefly becomes one of the better deals in Shirlington. Come for the prime rib, order the Jordan, and call it a good night.

Westover Β· Arlington Β· Turkish and Mediterranean
Maya Bistro isn't a wine destination, but Monday half-price bottles and legitimately interesting Turkish pours make it a Wild Card worth knowing about. Come for the pide, stay for the Angora β just don't touch the Oyster Bay.

Ballston Β· Arlington Β· New Englandβinspired seafood & raw bar
Salt Line Ballston isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list is smarter and more purposeful than most seafood spots in this price range. Send a friend here for oysters and Muscadet and they'll thank you.

National Landing / Pentagon City Β· Arlington Β· Southern & Korean-influenced American
Succotash Prime's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a polished upscale Southern spot in a hotel-adjacent dining corridor β safe, recognizable, and priced for expense accounts. We'd send a friend here for a reliable night out, not a wine destination.

National Landing / Crystal City Β· Arlington Β· Modern Italian
Corso is a dependable Italian wine list in a neighborhood that could easily get away with doing much less β it doesn't dazzle, but it doesn't disappoint either. If the Wednesday half-price bottle rumor holds up when you call ahead, it might just tip into genuinely great value territory.

Clarendon Β· Arlington Β· Retail Wine & Takeout
Liberty To-Go is a genuine wild card β a tavern wine shop hybrid with a fortified wine section that would embarrass most dedicated wine bars, all priced without the usual Arlington markup. Come for the Barolo, stay for the Sherry flight you didn't know you needed.
