Sushi, game day crowds, passable pours

The wine list at Kabuki Westgate is exactly what you'd expect from a lively chain sushi spot wedged into a sports entertainment district — short, safe, and built for people who just want something cold and familiar. It's not offensive, but it's not trying very hard either. The cocktail menu is clearly where the energy went.
The list clocks in at 15–25 bottles, leaning almost entirely on California and New Zealand workhorses with zero adventurousness in sight. You'll find the usual suspects — crowd-friendly names that sell themselves on brand recognition rather than any curatorial intent. There's no old-world presence, no interesting domestic producers outside the obvious, and no nod to Japanese wine culture beyond the sake program, which is where this restaurant actually shines. If you're hoping for a wine list that complements the nuanced flavors of a well-made sushi roll, this isn't your destination.
Six to ten options by the glass keeps things accessible, and for a game-day chain environment that's about right. The pours are consistent and the selections mirror the bottle list — recognizable names that won't surprise anyone. Don't expect rotation or seasonal additions; what's on the menu today was probably on it six months ago.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — null
It's a crowd pleaser for a reason — bright, zippy, and one of the more honest picks on the list for cutting through the richness of a spicy tuna roll. Not exciting, but it does the job without gouging you.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc
In a list full of California Chardonnay reflex orders, the Sauvignon Blanc is actually the smarter call with sushi. Most people default to Rombauer out of habit, but the crisp acidity here is a much better match for raw fish and light soy-based flavors.
Rombauer Chardonnay
Rombauer is a fine wine, but at a chain restaurant in an entertainment district it's almost certainly marked up well past what it's worth. That big, buttery profile also fights against delicate sushi flavors rather than working with them — you're paying a premium for a wine that's actively the wrong fit.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Spicy Tuna Roll
The Sauvignon Blanc's citrus-driven acidity and slight herbaceous edge cut straight through the heat and fat of the spicy tuna without competing with the rice or nori. It's the most food-smart combo on the menu.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Kabuki Westgate is a fun spot for sushi and cocktails on a Cardinals game night — just don't come for the wine list. Order a sake flight instead and save yourself the markup.
Westgate Entertainment District · Glendale · American gastropub / bar & grill
Bar Louie Westgate is a perfectly fine place to drink beer and watch a game — the wine list is an afterthought and everyone involved seems to know it. If wine is your thing, order a cocktail and come back to the wine conversation at a different restaurant.

Turquoise Wine Bar is the kind of place that earns its Wild Card badge honestly — not by being weird for weird's sake, but by curating a genuinely curious list in a zip code that didn't ask for one. Send your wine-curious friends here; they'll leave with something new to talk about.

Maggiano's Westgate is perfectly fine for a glass of wine with dinner — just don't come expecting the list to match the ambition of the kitchen. If wine is actually important to your night, this probably isn't your destination.

Bonefish Grill Glendale isn't a wine destination, but it's a perfectly functional place to have a glass with dinner without feeling ripped off. Send your friends here for the Bang Bang Shrimp — just don't tell them to geek out on the list.

Skip the wine list on any day that isn't Wednesday — the markups are too steep for what's in the glass. But Half Off Wine Wednesday genuinely changes the math, and a $20 bottle of Prosecco rosé with a bowl of meatballs is hard to argue with.
