Lowcountry Vibes, Happy Hour Worth Showing Up For

Wingman Metrics
Walking into Juniper on Main, the Southern coastal warmth hits before you even open the menu — and the wine list follows the same philosophy: familiar, approachable, no curveballs. This is a list built for the neighborhood, not for the wine geek, and it knows exactly what it's doing.
The list leans hard on supermarket staples — Kim Crawford, Josh Cellars, Meiomi, La Marca — names that move fast and keep tables happy without any friction. There's no real regional focus, no deep dive into Old World producers, and nothing that's going to make a Burgundy nerd do a double take. What you get is a tightly curated collection of crowd-pleasing bottles that match the easygoing Lowcountry energy of the room. Don't come here expecting discovery; come here expecting something cold in a glass that works with shrimp and grits.
The by-the-glass program is the main event, especially during happy hour when prices drop to genuinely good territory. Glass pours cover the obvious bases — a Prosecco, a couple of whites, a Cab, a Pinot Noir — enough to navigate the menu without stress. Rotation appears minimal, which means what you see is likely what you'll get on your next visit too.
Chateau Souverain Chardonnay — $9
At $9 a glass — and even less during the 3–5 p.m. happy hour window — this is a perfectly serviceable pour for a casual weeknight dinner. It's not a revelation, but at this price point it doesn't need to be.
Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc
Often overshadowed by Kim Crawford on any list they share, the Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc is a smarter order here — slightly less marked up and a solid match for the seafood-forward menu. Most people walk right past it.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
At $12 a glass, you're paying 200% over retail for one of the most mass-produced, sweetish Pinot Noirs on the market. It's not bad wine, but it's not $12 wine either — especially when better-value pours are sitting right next to it on the list.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Shrimp and Grits
The bright citrus and grassy edge of the Kim Crawford cuts through the richness of the grits and plays nicely off the brininess of the shrimp. It's the most obvious pairing on the list and also the most correct one.
Monday–Friday — Half-price wine by the glass daily from 3–5 p.m. during happy hour, alongside $2 off all drafts. Does not apply to bottles.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Juniper on Main isn't trying to be a wine destination, and that honesty is actually refreshing. Show up at 3:30 on a Tuesday, order a half-price glass, and let the shrimp and grits do the heavy lifting.

Grille 39 is fine — and fine is the ceiling. If you're staying at the hotel and don't want to drive anywhere, the wine list will get you through dinner without incident. Just don't go out of your way for it.

Northwest Carmel · Carmel · Upscale Italian
Convivio is a reliable wine destination for Northwest Carmel — the Italian focus is coherent, the top-tier bottles are legitimate, and it'll satisfy most tables without complaint. The markups sting a bit and the list plays it too safe to earn a higher badge, but if you're in the neighborhood and want a proper bottle with dinner, you won't leave disappointed.

Aberdeen Social House is doing more with its wine list than the address or the concept would lead you to believe, and Rootstock's global curation keeps it from feeling like an afterthought. Not a destination wine program yet, but a genuinely solid call for the north side of Indy.

Café Patachou is a genuinely good café that simply doesn't care about wine — and that's fine, because neither does most of its lunch crowd. Come for the French toast, grab a Ramona if you need bubbles, and don't come here expecting anything resembling a wine program.

Mezzo is a perfectly comfortable neighborhood Italian spot with a wine list that matches its vibe — approachable, familiar, and not trying too hard. If you know what you're doing, steer toward the Chianti Classico options and away from the marquee brands; if you don't, you'll still have a fine glass of wine with your pasta.

Tucci's Carmel isn't trying to reinvent wine in Indiana, and that's fine — it's a reliable, Italian-focused list that does its job alongside good food. Show up on a Monday, grab a bottle of Tignanello at half price, and you're having a genuinely great night.
